The desk staff was fine and seemed to understand that this hotel is disgusting. The area it's in is sketchy at best. There was a man sitting in his old car with the door open I had to walk by, and there were unsavory people coming and going from the hotel. I had to walk through a crumbling brick alleyway to find my second-floor room. When I entered, the TV was on, the curtains were mostly pulled down, the bedding was rumpled, there was a grimy white towel on the floor by the shower and there was urine/excrement in the toilet.
I didn't stay, and the hotel refunded my payment.
Also, because it was 10:30 p.m., I decided to continue my drive to my sister's house in St. Augustine instead of staying in an Ocala hotel. I arrived at her house at 2 a.m. and slept in my car so as not to wake her up.
The only good in this is I'll have an unbelievable story to tell for years to come.
