Convenient to Byward and Winterlude.

Pros: Staff, location, breakfast, afternoon tea.
Cons: Could use some sprucing up in places.
Location: Residential area . Tons of excellent restaurants and shops in Byward. US Embassy 3 blocks away. Rideau Canalway is a 5-10 minute walk.
We visit Winterlude every year and normally look for reasonably priced accommodations within walking distance of the canal and restaurants. Although the hotel is showing some signs of age and wear, we found it to be very comfortable and clean. The staff was exceptionally helpful and professional. The morning breakfast was a nice combination of hot and cold offerings along with fruit and baked goods. The afternoon tea was also a pleasant surprise with hot drinks and snacks . Indoor parking is very convenient and priced at average costs for the area. We would certainly stay here again.

Cozy, Clean and Professional

Pros: Clean, comfy, gorgeous room w balcony. Quiet. Beautiful bottle of water incl.
Cons: Chocolates on the pillow(or maple candies)
Location: Byward Market down the street, changing of the guards...
One of the best B&B's that we have stayed at - the artwork throughout warms it beautifully. Terrific well-trained, courteous staff, excellent breaky(hello sumptuous quiche!) beautiful mattress and linen, great view of the Parliament from our balcony...we will def return! Thank You:)

A gem of a place to stay in a beautiful city

Pros: Breakfast, Teatime, Rooms, and Great location. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Close by parking.
Location: Close to all the great sites and great pubs and restaurants. All walking distance. A very fun place to be.
A great experience! A very comfortable Inn that is in a safe, quiet area. Covered parking garage is located right next to the Inn and is very affordable with easy access. The INN is in a great location next to the Byward Market and very close walking to Parliament and other great centers e.g. National Art Museum, Parks. Many great pubs and restaurants located very near. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the rooms that had refrigerators, microwave, coffeepot, robes and other amenities. The beds were very comfortable. Really enjoyed the balcony that had a table and chairs to sit outside and enjoy morning coffee of your favorite beverage. The Breakfasts were great with a nice selection of food. In the afternoon they offer Tea Time that includes snacks. We also enjoyed the complimentary Sauna time they offer. Very nice price. We will definitely stay here again.

Great little place in a great location

Pros: Everything.
Location: It is in the historic Byword Market area. See above.
Staff very friendly and handed you a paper with all your questions answered which you could carry with you as you explored the neighborhood. Parking was extra but very convenient; literally right next door and in a garage. It was close to the market area yet very quiet. Easy and safe walking distance to market, parliament hill, rideaux canal, national art gallery. Room was very roomy and airy with a balcony with a view of Parliament Hill. Room was immaculate and fully equipped, including a refrigerator/freezer and real plates, glasses, and silverware, and a table for 2 to eat at. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast buffet was excellent. One of the best places we have stayed at and we travel a lot. Great value!

Close to the Action In Ottawa

Pros: Breakfast, location, staff.
Cons: Since it's the slow season, my room didn't get cleaned until late in the afternoon. This is a minor issue.
Location: Close to major attractions like National Gallery, the Royal Mint, Parliament, Rideau Canal. Byward Market has tons of restaurants.
This was my second stay at the Byward Blue. I had previously visited during the week of Canada Day. Things were quieter and more relaxed this time since it was off-season (a few days before Christmas). I like the location of the hotel. It's one-half block off of Byward Market, easy walking distance from the National Gallery, Parliament and shopping. A major transit line runs 1/2 block away and other bus lines are five minutes away. I was able to make it everywhere on foot or by bus. I even took the bus to a Senators hockey game. Breakfast is nice. A step up from the "free breakfast" I'm used to when staying in the US. Lots of options for food and they change it up each day. The staff are friendly Ottawa really goes all-out for Christmas, very pretty at night. I will probably stay here again should I be in Ottawa in the future.

GOOD LOCATION AND VALUE FOR THE MONEY

We were there four nights and had a good stay. Breakfast included gives good value for the price. Staff were ok, not overly friendly but gave us assistance when needed. The room was quite small but it was clean and to us that is what is important. The WiFi always worked and was free as well. LOTS of great eating places close by and all the history you need as well.

You get your money's worth and worse..

The hotel was old, the room smelled of antiseptic, the bed lumpy, the pillows too soft and flat. Don't expect any service at all from any of the staff. I had to get the iron and ironing board from the front desk and lug in all the way to my room WITHOUT any assistance from anyone. Worst of all, the rooms don't have bolts/locks from inside so that anyone who has access to the room's duplicate key can enter. Which was what actually happened to me! The front desk mistakenly gave a spare key to my room to another guest! How careless can they be with their guests' safety?!

Spartan, but with everything you need

Wonderful location at the Byward Market. The hotel/airfare package was cheaper than just airfare, so I wasn't expecting much. My room was simple, but clean, with a very comfortable firm mattress and nice bedclothes. There certainly are no frills. However, I wrongly assumed that the water pressure and water temperature would both be low as cost-savings measures; as a result, I nearly parboiled myself in the shower. I can't comment on the continental breakfast since I opted for the patisseries and restaurants within easy walking distance. The Byward Market is a thriving tourist site, so it is puzzling that Ottawa doesn't relocate its homeless shelters. This hotel is in a well lit location, so I didn't feel unsafe, but certainly one needs to be careful to not end up in a dicey situation.
