We liked the old world charm, the hospitality of Colin the host, all the utensils and appliances provided, the comfortable furniture and decor, the big desk, the fireplace and the location was quiet but close to the centre of town.
I loved the uniqueness of the property and apartment. It was very cosy and made me feel very much like I was on a vacation! Additionally, the bed was very comfortable, space to spread out was fantastic, and the kitchen and breakfast was everything we needed!
We had 1 night here. Although old-style accommodation, it was excellent, with a lot of character and charm. We were in the "Music Room", which was enormous (really a whole apartment). The bed was very comfortable. Everything we needed was there. The outdoor seating areas were good, although it was a bit too hot for us to use them much. The breakfast supplies were very generous. Located within few minutes' walk of the main street. Would definitely recommend as an alternative to a standard motel room.
We were surprised by the size of the room and how beautifully it was appointed. Would be great for a family. The facilities were spotless and in character with the era which made for a unique and pleasant experience.
Greeted by Colin, Miss Til (little terrier) and immediately felt the old world charm. Colin showed us to our very spacious, butt cosy self contained apartment and explained the history - the 'room' had been the homework/study area for female students.... " A place of learning and discipline'. Very light and airy with a quaint little verandah, comfortable kitchen - everything we needed, even bathrobes. A plentiful breakfast, we wanted for nothing....and the bed gave us a great night's sleep. Would recommend this charming piece of local history. Thank you Colin...and Miss Til!
We loved our stay at this place. From the moment of our arrival, Colin made us and our two young children feel very welcome. The kids loved the lemons picked straight from the tree - and the chickens. The room was so interesting and very comfortable. It was clean and warm. The breakfast items set us up perfectly for another day on the road. We would highly recommend this lovely place.
Interestingly after reading the other reviews on this b & b we really had to disagree with previous ratings.
Our check in was 4pm - I have to say this was the first time in hundreds of stays all over the world that we had such a late check in. We had arrived after a long day of travel at 3pm hoping for an early (and I say that with toungue in cheek) checkin. After ringing the bell a few times it was evident that no-one was on the premises. At 4.15 my husband actually rang the mobile no. to be told he was on his way and would be a minute. Closer to 4.30 he rocked up saying that he was at a luncheon. Great start. I asked what time check out was assuming it would be later than the 10am usual but no, it was 10.
We were shown our tired, and freezing cold room and although it had character there were numerous issues from broken fridge door handles to loose unsafe stairs to name a couple. It took about 2 hrs to heat the large room and for us to feel comfortable. I really would look elsewhere if you want value for money and good old fashioned hospitality. I think the owners are really resting on their past reviews and reputation. We absolutely wont be back. It was the worst place we stayed on our road trip.
Absolutely loved the old world feeling and decor of this fabulous accomodation. Gorgeous comfy king bed , two fireplaces , we used the one that was gas and easy to light !
Also it was great to have breakfast supplied so that we could cook it when we wanted to , to have an early driving start .
A true gem! A very happy find with hosts who have clearly restored life back into this amazing piece of history with an eye for detail and a loving approach.
Looking forward to returning again some day and sending family and friends who we know will appreciate this beautiful place as much as we do.
A wonderful suite & stay at the Old Convent Parkes
An extraordinary and wonderful place to stay - the suite was elegant and very practical - even more pleasing was accommodation allowed pets. The Old Convent is a must for anyone travelling along the Newell Highway - cannot recommend it highly enough! Centrally located - welcoming and very obliging owner! Breakfast was outstanding and included eggs from their own chickens!
Beautiful historical building with spacious and comfortable rooms. Lovely welcome from the owners too. We enjoyed a dip in the hot tub in the garden then walked a couple of hundred metres to the Woolworths to buy food and cooked it in our kitchen before settlling in to watch The Dish on the DVD provided. The breakfast ingredients provided were plentiful and delicious and the flexibility was wonderful. Highly recommend the Convent as a lovely alternative to motels.
