I was unable to travel due to a medical situation requiring surgery, and although I booked a non-refundable rate, I reached out to both Expedia and the hotel well in advance to ask for help. Expedia genuinely tried to assist me, but their hands were tied because the hotel refused every request for flexibility.
TRIBE Phuket Patong would not offer a refund, date change, or even a credit. The only option they gave me was to pay for an entirely new reservation upfront before they would consider canceling the original one — something extremely unreasonable during a medical emergency.
I understand strict policies, but there should still be basic compassion for legitimate medical hardship. Because the hotel refused to work with me, I ended up losing the full amount for a stay I never used.
I want future travelers to be aware that even with Expedia’s support, this property may not help you if an emergency occurs.
