We booked this hotel based on the many positive reviews, but unfortunately, our experience didn’t quite meet expectations. The room felt small for the price we paid. The bathroom sink was awkwardly placed right next to the bed, and the bathroom itself was quite cramped. The shower head was positioned unusually low—around shoulder height for me (I’m 6 feet tall)—which made it uncomfortable to use. We also had ongoing issues with the Wi-Fi, which worked inconsistently throughout our stay. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly and courteous. However, breakfast on our first day was disappointing, with several items already gone. The options included croissants, red grapes, and cereal, but the overall selection felt limited. Parking was another hassle—we struggled to find a spot in the neighborhood, as it was mostly full. Overall, while there were some positives, we were left underwhelmed, and we might not book here again.

This hotel is beautiful, in the Bayview neighborhood that is within walking distance to many areas of Petoskey. What is doesn’t have compared to newer traditional hotels (parking lot, elevator, central AC), it makes up for with older charm and a convenient setting.

The Terrace Inn

Room was very small; bathroom even smaller. The shower in a cabin on a cruise ship is at least three times the size of the one in this room. No elevator; understand it’s historical property. Very limited parking. We made the reservations the beginning of March and requested a room with a view of the lake. When we checked in we were told those were all filled, but we would have “a lovely street view to see the colorful houses across the street”. Not our idea of a view! The continental breakfast left much to be desired. Peeled hard boiled eggs in a bowl, shriveled apples, dry, over baked croissants and watermelon cut in such tiny pieces you could almost cut your tongue on it. There had been a bowl of strawberries, but it was empty. For the money we paid for three nights’ stay we would say it wasn’t worth it.

The historical aspect of the Inn was nice and staff very welcoming. The main lobby and porches, both with sitting areas were great to enjoy a quiet evening, cup of coffee & desert from the restaurant. Need to get those historical pictures up on the walls including captions if available. I was told by the staff there are lots of pictures, they just are not up yet from the prior painting. The room was small, very small & the bathroom even smaller, very much smaller. The shower was very, very small and the shower head had almost zero movement so that the water flow could never be directed lower than your shoulders. Even against the shower wall it was essentially chin height. Need to fix that shower head movement, it became a big complaint point for such a small detail. Breakfast each morning was lacking and not at all in keeping with the quality of the evening restaurant level. It was no better than a low-end chain hotel type of selection or even quality. Need to upgrade this in order to consider it anywhere near the quality you portray the restaurant.
