After making it to the condo with verification of paid rental, me and my husband were left with no access code and told that we were frauded. The host didn't keep up with his rental which cost us just over $260 to book a hotel for our stay. We got in the next day and were told that we'd be reimbursed. We were not fully compensated and have no avenue in which to pursue the issue. I will no longer trust the site or the owners from this cringy experience.
I had booked this property because it was advertised as a two bedroom. In fact, the listing included a third bedroom. Upon arrival, I found a one bedroom apartment with a large kitchen-dining- living room with a sofa that akwardly converted to a bed. there were no sheets provided for this "bed". My initial complaint was met by the landlord with an offer (via the property manager) to refund my money so I could find a unit that would fit our needs. Shortly after, the owner started contacting me directly, sending screenshots of a listing which was not the same listing as on VRBO site. It was in Italian, a language I do not write or speak. He soon be also rescinded the refund offer and left me to seek assistance from VRBO. The trip was terrible- I spent in excess of 10 hours on the phone and texting with VRBO and was shuffled around hotels which were not to the standard of a vacation rental. I am still out the full rental fee plus hotel nights I had to pay for and must pay off to my credit card before VRBO will consider reimbursing the expenses. I was repeatedly promised that the Rebooking Team would reach out to arrange a new vacation rental, but they never did. I spent 3 of 5 days not knowing where I would be staying that night, checking out then checking back in, hanging with luggage for hours in height of nice midday weather until I learned what the next move was. If only this owner had been helpful and recognized the kind of disruption a misleading listing can cause. i would not recommend renting any of his properties. his texts were not defensive and he actually went and changed the listing after I complained but I already had screenshots of the listing as it was when I booked.
