Fantastic Customer Service, Great Rates
Pros:The fantastic dining and entertainment facilities.
Cons:The shared dorms need a little TLC.
Location:Port Douglas is great for a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforest, Mossman Gorge, or Cape Tribulation.
We arrived late at the Coral Beach Lodge but Tom made sure we were taken care of by leaving our keys out and wi-fi passwords out. When we finally met him the following morning we were more than impressed with his friendly and helpful attitude and we never saw anything other than a positive attitude from him.
We were staying in the five person shared dorms. They were nicely set up with bunks along one side and individual lockers (keys came with the room) along the other side. Each locker had an outlet inside to make electronics charging possible while keeping everything secure. The mattresses were thin but comfortable and the A/C worked well. The wi-fi was great, even in the room.
The bathroom was a bit rundown with some peeling paint and and warping wood and it could have used a good cleaning. That being said, the hot water was hot and the shower worked well.
The additional facilities were the best part of the place. There was a massive and well outfitted shared kitchen along with a dining room in the center of the housing areas. There was also a laundry facility, a nice little pool, a room to watch movies, and a little restaurant (though it was never open when we were around). I truly believe the Coral Beach Lodge has the best amenities of any backpackers style hotel I have ever stayed at.
Overall, we were very satisfied with the Coral Beach Lodge. The only detractor was the bathroom - everything else was amazing. If we were to return to Port
