The Relaxing Retreat is a brand new cozy one queen and a twin daylight basement apartment located in Alberta Arts just steps from everything you need.

The Concordia/ Alberta Arts Retreat is a newly renovated daylight basement apartment, which will provide you with a private, personal, & economical alternative to staying in a hotel/motel. It is nestled on a quiet tree lined residential street. We offer a newly renovated beautiful 800sq foot very spacious private unit. It has everything you need whether you are visiting PDX for a few days or for an extended stay. We live in the main part of the house just above you with our two maine coon kittens.

Located in the heart of the Historic Alberta Arts district the Sanctuary is sure to deliver a unique experience in custom designed, space efficient housing & convenient access to some of Portland's hottest spots, just steps away from diverse restaurants, natural food grocery stores, yoga, massage studios etc
 You can walk or bike though one of our numerous beautiful parks or community gardens. There are also bus lines within a few blocks walk that take you all over the city or rent a car to go. We love our neighborhood for offering the diversity of all these things, but with the peace and quiet of a neighborhood.

We wanted the apartment to be tranquil, meditative, efficient, green-friendly environment combining both comfort & practicality.
The sanctuary shares a garden (with us and also a couple other renters) with bamboo rustling in the breeze and fully landscaped yard space. Perfect for reflecting, reading, relaxing, happy-houring or whatever your heart desires.

Guest Access
-lockbox entry allows for easy 24 hour check in / check out, at your convenience. We will send you the code upon arrival. You'll have complete private access to the unit you have rented & the grounds of the property, including garden space which are shared spaces.
There are 7 stairs to enter the unit so keep that in mind. We are not ada.

-We are just a phone call/email/text away! Texts are preferred & we respond promptly to them. You may also use the web site messages as those are pushed as email too. We are pretty hands off & will leave you to enjoy your stay for the most part. We live on the premises with our two main coon cats who you might hear playing.

Getting Around
Easy to walk, bike, take the bus from this location Freeway access from I-5 access via Alberta St or killingsworth Exit.
Other Things to Note
‱ Kitchen induction cook plate, cookware & utensils - enough to heat up a meal or prepare a simple one. Toaster, blender, convection oven, crock pot & hot water pitcher, rice cooker, Microwave. There are so many amazing restaurants nearby - we think you'll be out enjoying them more than cooking in the cottage - but the kitchenette will serve to help you prepare simple meals if you'd like to stay in & eat too.

-No parties or events

-cancelation policy. Please read it we do not offer changes. We also do not allow for date changes within the window of the policy.
-Smoking is NOT allowed!
-People other than those in the Guest party set forth above may not stay overnight in the property. Any other person in the property is the sole responsibility of Guest.
-The unit is privately owned and property is occupied by the homeowners; the owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The Homeowners are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premise.
-Keep the property and all furnishings in good order, only use appliances for their intended uses & inform us if anything is not working upon your arrival.
-Respect the neighbors - houses are close together in this neighborhood, so please respect noise level after 9p & before 8am. If enjoying the back yard be aware there might be people sleeping just next to you we have strict neighborhood quiet times
-CAR SHARING: Portland is home to car sharing services including Zipcar, Getaround, and Car2Go.
-AIRPORT: Car: 15 minutes with no traffic
-Taxi: About $25
-AMTRAK or GREYHOUND : About 30 minutes via MAX Yellow Line light rail and transfer to #72 bus.
-PARKING – There is ample parking on the streets surrounding the property. Parking is not limited to any number of vehicles, though one vehicle per party is preferred. Vehicles may park on the street in front of the main house or anywhere in the neighborhood where parking is available. Any illegally parked cars are subject to towing; applicable fines/towing fees are the sole responsibility of the vehicle owner.
Housekeeping: There is no daily housekeeping service. While linens and bath towels are included in the unit, daily maid service is not included in the rental rate. We suggest you bring beach towels. We do not permit towels or linens to be taken from the units. Laundry mat is just a few blocks away. Our bath is a large shower with toilet. Sink is in common space shared with kitchenette.
-The property is furnished and includes all kitchen utensils, cookware, dining ware, french press coffee maker, hot water pot, stove, toaster, crockpot, blender, silverware, towels, sheets, spices, some condiments, iron, ironing board, TV and dvd/vcr player.
-TAXES: Portland automatically collets the 11.5% local lodging tax included in your charges. Accessory short term rental city of portland permit 14253624
-We do not keep the kitchen fully stocked with every item you may need, but do leave condiments, however we cannot guarantee everything you may need will be out there, only the stocked items are guaranteed and the grocery is 3 blocks away.
-Rental Party: The rental party shall consist of Guest and only the persons listed in the inquiry.
-Maximum Occupancy: The maximum number of guests is limited to 3 persons besides children . An additional charge or $10 per person per night for guests over 2.
-Term of the Lease begins with the "Check - in" date & ends with the "Check - out" date.
-Rental Rules: Guest agrees to abide by the Rental Rules above at all times while at the property and shall cause all members of the rental party and anyone else Guest permits on the property to abide by the following rules at all times while at the property.
-Access: Guest shall allow Homeowner access to the property for purposes of repair and inspection. Homeowner shall exercise this right of access in a reasonable manner.
-Deposit: A deposit has been paid to reserve your dates. Reservations cannot be guaranteed available without deposit. The deposit is applied toward the rental fees and will be returned upon 7 days prior to check out if no damages or excessive messes are incurred.
-Cleaning Fee: for every stay there is a cleaning fee per visit we offer a living wage to our cleaners.

-Rental Rate. Payment in full of the full fees shall be due upon arrival & paid through website only.
-The parties agree to the terms of this Short Term Rental Agreement, as evidenced by their acceptance of this booking.

The garden is amazing! The unit is a little underground which was perfect because it was VERY hot when we were visiting and it was much cooler in the unit! It's comfortable and beautifully decorated. My friend slept in the main bedroom and I slept in the twin bed. My only minor issue was that the bed frame squeaked when I'd turn over during the night.Otherwise, everything was outstanding!

Portland Weekend

Overall, the property and process were great. The property is a basement that's got everything you need, plus, it's cute and cozy. The yard is amazing and you get to say hi to the cats as you go in and out. The bed is super comfy too. The property is in a fabulous location with easy access to coffee, food, and more and it's just blocks from the Alberta Arts District. Finally, the check-in and communication with the hosts were clear, timely, and responsive.

My 37 yr. old nephew stayed at the property instead of me. In his words "Absolutely Adorable". He wants to stay there again on his next trip to Portland. It was quiet, comfortable, and walking distance to so many restaurants and shops.

A friend and I stayed here to go visit Adelman farm in Salem. This neighborhood is so beautiful, full of moms and dads walking with their children, and walking distance to great food & coffee.Would definitely stay again!

Great location, great experience.

This place is amazing! What a great place to stay. Super close within walking distance to many food options which was a huge plus for us! The unit we stayed in was very clean, and a cool little outdoor sitting area. The backyard is a very cool tranquil area to sit and relax while feeling secluded! I highly recommend staying here! The hosts were equally as amazing and helpful with information. We will for sure stay there again.

Just what we wanted

A lovely and blissfully cool basement apartment. There was a heat wave (104°!) in Portland yet we were very comfortable here. It's a cozy apartment stocked with all you might need. Towels, kitchen appliances and tools. The garden is so restful, we took big sniffs of the jasmine every time we walked by. We got to visit with Edie & Dorian as well. Good communication with the hosts. Just what we needed and wanted.

Tucked away and cozy

We loved our stay! It was more spacious than I'd imagined while being very cozy. Great for hot days, we were there during a heat wave and it stayed cool and comfortable through the 90 degree days. My daughter loved the garden and watching the kitties on their catio. The hosts were very responsive and helpful, but it felt very private as well. Nice and quiet.

The apartment was in the basement of the home. It was clean and well appointed. My only issue is my wife and I are tall...6'3 and 5'10. A shorter person would not have to dodge the support beams...LOL! Other than that and not seeing the cats it was a very comfortable stay.

Cute basement suite in perfect location

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 days and had a great time. The hosts are great at responding to messages and checking in, the place is pretty spacious, and it's by an insane amount of shops, restaurants, bars, etc. that you can easily walk to. Would recommend!
