Everything about the hotel was wonderful, except the check-in. The young man who came out to the front desk (after we rang a bell) was perhaps the least-friendly individual I’ve ever encountered in a position like this. He did not greet us, simply said “Name”. Then “ID & credit card”. He then handed us keys, stated the room number & pointed us to the elevator. He looked maybe 20 yrs old, was wearing a torn, dirty hat (granted, in style but inappropriate for work). On the other occasions when we came and left through the lobby, he was nowhere to be seen. We were meeting friends who were also staying at the hotel. They mentioned the sullen, unfriendly check-in as well. This person should definitely not be working in this position in such a nice facility!

Good, but…

Everything was clean. My disappointment was with the water park. I picked this hotel so my kids could have fun at the waterpark. First day we were there, the sprinklers in the kiddie pool weren’t on, the big slide was closed off. It was sad. The second day they had the kiddie pool open. They never had the big slide running. If they’re going to advertise it, they should have a life guard on duty for the water slide.

We stayed two nights so we could just Effigy Mounds National Park. Perfect and a restaurant/tavern on site was great so we didn’t need to leave for dinner after arriving at 7pm.

Meh - Not terrible, but not great

The place itself wasn’t terrible in terms of visuals and despite being full each of the three nights we stayed there, it wasn’t terribly loud in the hotel itself. There were hoards of motorcycle tourists that would pull up at late hours with their incredibly loud engines and blaring music which you could easily hear if your room faced the parking lot. The main problems for us were that we had small ants in our room that seemed to love the desk even though there wasn’t any food on it, and the toilet lever was also cracked and on its way to breaking. Also, the breakfast was lackluster. Eggs that had a non-appetizing texture, limp French toast sticks, a non-functioning juice & water dispenser, a lack of refilling napkins and utensils when they ran out, etc.

This is probably a great place to stay if you have a dog. However, for those of us who don't I'd say STAY AWAY. Our room smelled terrible - it was like sleeping in a kennel. The next time I'm in the area I'll definitely look for a different place to stay. We also had great difficulty trying to get the tv to work and when we called the front desk and asked what to do the guy that answered said "I don't know." BAD all the way around!!
