This hotel has a huge addition on it, including the beautiful atrium seen in the photos. Unfortunately our room was in the old part of the hotel. Everything about it was old. I was disappointed

Thank you for the 5 star rating!

The staff at this hotel is top notch. Super friendly and willing to help with any questions. It’s pretty quiet which we liked but a short 15 min walk to Reykjavik shopping and restaurants. The lobby/lounge has a great vibe with couches and we enjoyed drinking, snacking and playing cards there. I would definitely recommend. Some cons for me personally is the bed is REALLY soft with no support so I always had a backache. Also the towels were very stiff and scratchy, they need to use some fabric softener lol.

Lobby was nice. Bed ok. Nice pillows and comforters. The mattress was hard but not saggy. The TV was limited, no news channels. The pool was a 10’ walk away. We were told taking towels from the hotel was forbidden. We went on a tour from the hotel to a lagoon and the tour didn’t supply towels. We asked if they had towels, the unpleasant woman at the front desk said bringing towels from the hotel was “forbidden.” I’ve been to many places where visits to places where towels were needed were expected... hotels usually have beach towels in those places. They had a coffee bar for a cappuccino or espresso. It didn’t open until 11 AM! The only way to get coffee before 11 AM was to go to the restaurant where you had to pay $30 for a breakfast buffet. You could not order a la cart breakfast. The breakfast buffet was not worth $30. There were reconstituted scrambled eggs, cold fried eggs, undercooked bacon, etc. There was a coffee machine in the lobby that you were supposed to be able to use for a fee, but they were servicing it during the hours when the coffee bar was closed so it was also not available. What hotel lobby doesn’t have coffee in the morning for their jet lagged guests??? They said they had a shuttle to the marina area, which is essentially where you needed to go for dinner. The shuttle ends at 5pm! The customer service was nonexistent. I felt more like I was in a gulag than a “grand hotel.” Will likely visit Iceland again. I will not stay here, nor recommend it.

Dear, Thank you for your review. Firstly I would like to say that I'm sorry that we did not meet your expectations. As we are aware that hotels with part of the beach are providing towels to use outside of the building - most of the hotels without access to beach are not renting out towels. We are more than sure that you can rent a towel, or check beforehand and book that in a package, at the Blue Lagoon itself. We open our bar at 11 am and it is open until 11 pm - we do have a coffee machine in the lobby and there was no maintenance other than cleaning (5min) or refilling the water(2min) in past weeks. I´m sorry if that was too long, we are always doing it a few times a day since it is in use very often. I´m surprised by your comments about breakfast - checking other reviews I have to say that our breakfast is one of the key factors in the success of our hotel. There are plenty of options for dinner in our hotel and around it in walking distance. We can always help you to find a suitable restaurant. We run the shuttle as a complimentary extra service. Knowing the term of Gulag very well and having a part of it in history I would not describe any place in a democratic country with this term, for the memory of many.

Hotel was very clean, staff was quick to respond with requests. I didn’t like that they charged us for an early check in. I thought they had said early check was an extra $30 but they charged me almost $50. I thought this hotel was far from downtown Reykjavík but it wasn’t. It’s very close to Downtown Reykjavík, very easy drive or walk. Majority of the tours do a direct pick-up/drop-off at this hotel which is a plus, since the other pickup spots are at bus stops.

Overall property was clean, modern and great location. Did not like arriving after a 16 hour travel process at 7am and being given the impression we do not even want to talk to you until "check in time" of 3pm. There is NO WAY this property was sold out and there was a room somewhere. Besides rooms are cleaned throughout the morning and a room surely came available before 3pm.

Loved everything but the pillows :)

Great hotel, clean, comfortable, awesome breakfast buffet.... need better pillows though, that is literally my only complaint.
