We booked and paid for two nights well in advance and maintained good communication. A family emergency prevented us from arriving the first night. Severe weather warnings, including tornadoes, were in effect across the region. Out of safety concerns, we asked to shift our stay by two days, as the calendar showed no upcoming bookings. The Host declined and insisted we pay for extra nights. While within policy, the lack of empathy was disappointing. She allowed a late check-in on day two but began emailing us exactly at check-in despite knowing we were en route. After a 3-hour drive, I explained we’d leave the next day. I have mobility issues and asked to rest, but she insisted I join a walking tour when my daughter could go in my place. The next morning, my daughter had a quick swim. We were a few minutes late checking out. The Host arrived at 11 a.m. sharp and accused her of trying to take a towel—which was untrue. The interaction felt needlessly hostile. The setting is lovely and the bunkie is charming, but the bed was uncomfortable, and we didn’t sleep well. Swimming was difficult due to sharp zebra mussels around the dock. While other guests praised the Host, our experience was markedly different. The tone and treatment we received, especially after a family emergency and hazardous travel, felt rigid and unwelcoming. We left feeling more stressed than when we arrived. Sadly, we cannot recommend this property to those seeking a flexible, peaceful, or restorative stay.
