About the cabin
River Birch is a newly-renovated cabin tucked into the woods of Mathias, West Virginia, offering a comfortable retreat with the conveniences of home. Designed for couples, families, or small groups, the cabin blends country living with thoughtful updates, making it easy to relax after a day outdoors or a quiet afternoon inside.
Sleeping arrangements
The cabin sleeps up to six guests across two bedrooms and a pull-out couch in the living room. One bedroom features a queen bed, while the second has a twin bunk bed. The pull-out couch provides additional sleeping space without crowding the living area. A full bathroom with a bathtub and bathroom essentials serves the home.
Living space
The main living area is set up for unwinding during cooler months, with comfortable seating & a TV for streaming. Large windows bring in natural light and forest views, even on overcast days. Central heating keeps the cabin comfortable throughout the season, and WiFi supports streaming, video calls, or remote work. A dedicated workspace is available in a common area.
Kitchen and dining
The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing meals at home, whether you are cooking a hearty dinner after hiking or brewing coffee on a quiet morning. The open layout keeps the kitchen connected to the rest of the living space, making it easy to gather and spend time together indoors when the weather turns cold.
Outdoor setting
Step outside to enjoy the private hot tub, a favorite year-round feature after a crisp day outdoors. The covered front porch and private backyard offer space to take in the wooded setting. Free parking on the premises and a private entrance make arrivals simple, with self check-in via lockbox.
The area
River Birch is a short drive from downtown Lost River, where you will find small shops and local flavor, and within easy reach of hiking trails throughout the area.

Longer Stays
For stays of 14 nights or longer, guests will be asked to e-sign a rental agreement prior to arrival. This agreement helps us comply with local requirements while protecting the property, and will be sent in advance for review.
Note
We often take our three little kids and dog to the cabin with us, so we're very family- and dog-friendly. Unfortunately we don't allow cats (we're allergic).
We loved our stay here! The cabin was clean and cozy and looked just like the photos. The hot tub was clean and ready to go. There is a nice yard and the road is quiet so our dog was off leash most of the week with no issues. The neighbors were so nice, multiple people stopped to talk to us when we were hanging out on the front porch. We didnât hear back from the owner for about a week when we initially reached out (before the trip) but communication was quick and thorough every time after that. Highly recommend.
We stayed at the River access cabin for 5 nights with our 2 doggies and had such a nice time. The absence of traffic noise at night time while listening to whippoor wills was glorious. We enjoyed Bob fires, hot tubbing, lazy days at the lake in the trout pond recreational area and a hike to Cranny Crow overlook in Lost River State Park. We took some adorable #almostheaven photos on the swing at the top.
The cabin is well appointed with various cookware, WiFi and a smart tv which we never used. The air conditioner works well and was a blessing as we arrived for a week of over 90* days. I had hoped to get some stellar stargazing in with my new telescope but the nights were not cooperative. We couldnât bring our suv due to car trouble but we were able to access the property with my little Nissan Sentra. That said, something with more ground clearance and more horsepower would have been ideal for the steep gravel roads.
Had a nice stay at Tony's cabin. kids ran around the yard and visited the creek. We took advantage of the games and fire pit. the cabin is a bit remote, but enjoyed every minute. good communication and high value.
a relaxing weekend getaway for my spouse and I, we really enjoyed the grill and hot tub, the Adirondack chairs by the fire were really great. The cabin itself is updated and super clean. The cabin is a bit remote, but that was the allure!
Rustic chic cabin/cottage in the woods with hot tub and fire pit
We had a great time at this cabin with our teen kids. we bbq'd, watched movies, and used the hot tub. Tony was a gracious host and communication was great. We had lots of questions and they answered all of them.
