The apartment is beautifully decorated with antiques and vintage furnishings. We especially enjoyed the terrace where we could relax with coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. It was away from the city center which we appreciated and found an outstanding local restaurant that we returned to twice. There is now an elevator which is great for being on the 4th floor. Unfortunately the tram was not operating while we were there due to construction on the rails but we fared ok with taxis. Cinzia was a wonderful host, checking in with us regularly and answering all our questions before and during our trip.
The Flower Penthouse was lovely! Spacious and bright, with beautiful furniture and artwork, including some incredible tapestries. It had a warm and welcoming ambiance. The steps were not an issue at all--they were marble, wide and shallow, and presented no challenge at all, even at the end of a long day of sightseeing.
Cinzia met us at the apartment upon our arrival, and provided us with information about local businesses and transportation options. She was available to assist in any way, if necessary.
The #8 tram stopped just a 1/2 block away, ran every few minutes, and had us in the middle of Rome within 15-20 minutes. There were options for multi-day tickets which we purchased at the tabachi shop right around the corner. We also used a nearby bus to travel to the Vatican. Very convenient!
We spent much of our time walking throughout the center of Rome, visiting the beautiful piazzas and churches, and marveling at the incredible historical sites; however, we typically ate dinner either in Trastevere (only a few stops away on the tram) or at La Gianicolense, just two blocks from the apartment. We also visited the open air market across from the tram stop to purchase some delicious meats, cheeses, and bread. Tony's Gelateria, also right around the corner, was excellent.
We absolutely loved the terrace! It was surrounded by an array of plants, shrubs, and succulents, which made it quiet and secluded. It was quite refreshing to enjoy a glass of wine out there at the end of the day.
Rome was our last stop in Italy. We had also rented properties in Florence and Lecce. Although those properties were both in the middle of their respective cities, and close to the tourist sights, we appreciated staying at an apartment that was a bit removed from the hubbub. Everything we could want or need was close by. We spent our days in the thick of things in the city, and then retired to the more relaxed pace of a residential neighborhood at the end of the day. We highly recommend the Flower Penthouse!!
Wonderful apartment, conveniently located, wonderful and thoughtful owner
Rome was our final stop on a multi-stage trip. We rented an apartment in Athens. We cruised from Athens to Venice along the Greek and Croatian coasts. We stayed a night in Venice. Finally we spent 3 nights in Rome.
Flower Penthouse was the best of the three experiences by far. Cinzia was the best hostess/owner by far.
PROPERTY
Flower Penthouse is a lovely apartment. It is very nicely furnished and decorated. It is a nicely large apartment. Overall, it was a pleasure to walk in the front door the first time and every time. As with most apartments in Europe, it does not have an elevator. Because our trip was so long, we had more bags than was ideal. I will say though, that it is worth climbing those steps, even with too many bags, to get to Flower Penthouse.
The owner/proprietress provided us with a large bottle of water, a package of coffee, and a selection of teas. It is useful to learn how to use one of those Italian coffee makers (Moka Pots). You can find a 2 minute YouTube video that can teach you.
LOCATION
Flower Penthouse is located on the absolute best Tram line in Rome, Tram #8. It is a 2 minute walk from the building to the Tram station. The Tram runs every 15 minutes (give or take a few). Going into Rome is a no-brainer. You stay on the Tram until it reaches the End-of-the-Line at Piazza Venezia. All you have to do is look for the Tram that says "8 VENEZIA" on the front-top. When you are returning you will have to pay attention though. Look for "8 CASTELLETO", and look at the map above the door, and count stops.
There is a open-air market from 7:30 until about 10:00 every morning (except Sunday). We loved it and bought our daily breakfast needs there. Of course we ate lunch and dinner either downtown or in nearby restaurants every day. There is a small convenience store nearby. There are little bars and caffeterias. The bars are not like U.S. bars. They sell coffee, espresso, milk and juices, and pastries. There is an ATM nearby as well, although it is about a 5 minute walk. Everything else you need is closer.
OWNER/PROPRIETOR
Cinzia is wonderful. She provides a great deal of useful information. The apartment is full of useful brochures and information. My wife and I have rented several properties from HomeAway over the past few years. Cinzia is the most pleasant and helpful hostess/owner we have encountered.
CONCLUSION
Cinzia and Flower Penthouse are awesome!
