Upgraded to family suite at Palazzo Manfredi
We booked for Palm Suite but were informed a few days before that its re-opening post-COVID-19 had been delayed. We were kindly offered a free upgrade to a two bedroom family suite at the main Palazzo Manfredi hotel instead. The best thing about our rooms were the views of the Colosseum, which were amazing. The staff were also lovely and the beds were amongst the most comfortable I have ever enjoyed. The windows were also very effective at keeping out the outside noise. The hotel restaurant was very good and also had amazing views of the Colisseum but was, in my opinion, a little overpriced for the quality. The bar was great too with a lovely vibe, great views and lots of complimentary snacks. On the slightly less positive side: - I would not really call our room a suite. It was really just two interconnected bedrooms. There were no other rooms or sitting areas. - The bedrooms were not overly generous in size. There was not a huge amount of space around each bed. - The bathrooms were good but the one did not offer much privacy. - Breakfast was delivered to our room because of COVID-19. We assume this was because there were not enough guests to justify setting up the full buffet in the restaurant. It was fine but not amazing. I would not have wanted to pay the full rate of approx €1000 per night and we were told that the Palm Suite was less luxurious, which makes me think that probably would not be particularly great value either.

The apartment/suite was a good sized 2 bedroom, perfect for our family of 4. The location was amazing, only a stones throw from the Colosseum and with a view of the Forum.

If Only...
The hotel is beautiful and tastefully done, ammenities are good and breakfast is nice. But the service is a little off. We arrived at 6PM, and could not access the hotel. We called and called and called, and there was no answer. We waited for about 15 minutes before a guest at the hotel (who said the same thing happened to them the day before) called someone, who in turn, called someone... we waited more, then someone came to check us in. He was nice, but didn't speak English and we had to use a little gesture and guesses. Besides, the elevator in the hotel is terrible, and gets stuck and won't open--we got stuck two days in a row. When the front desk woman saw us scrabbling and scared, she rolled her eyes and said "It's because you are four people. Too heavy!" This is the first time in my life we've been called "heavy.' Before this day, we were always known as tiny and lean. Besides, my little daughter is only 10, and the elevator says capacity is 8 people. One more thing, it's impossible to drive to the hotel. It took my husband a lot of ingenuity to figure out. GPS was useless.
