At Les Passets, you're in the perfect position for peace and quiet, but all the amenities, market towns, historical bastides (fortified towns) and a bustling nightlife are only a drive away. The nearest village of Briatexte, about 5 minutes drive or a 15 minute cycle ride, you will find a supermarket Casino which will cater for your basic provisions and is open on Sunday, bakeries, Chemist, cafe, doctor, post office and dentist can be found. It also has medieval couvert area where art exhibitions, concerts and local festival gatherings are held throughout the year.

To find one of the super-duper French supermarkets, you need to drive just another 5 minutes on the road to Graulhet, where there's a LeClerc and a SuperU.

Places to Visit

Lavaur is the nearest town, about 5 miles away, where you'll find a large Intermarche and Super U supermarkets, but you'll enjoy visiting the local shops for all the local specialties. There's an excellent poissonnerie (fishmongers) called Neptune where you can pick up today's catch for the barbecue as well as butchers, bakers, delicatessen and many boutiques, and don't miss market day on Saturday morning where you can mingle with the locals, practice your French, absorb the colours, smells and atmosphere, and find some excellent bargains. Lavaur also has a magnificent cathedral which features the red brickwork that's very traditionnal of the Tarn region. Along with many street cafes, there are a selection of good restaurants. Two of our favourites are the Pizzeria Calcio, which is ideal for an inexpensive family night out, and outside Lavaur Le Colvert - first class food and service with outside shaded terrace, and very reasonably priced. There's also a tourist office in Lavaur. Gaillac, on the river Tarn is 15 minutes away with twice weekly market, lovely boutiques, cafes and restaurants with terraces in the shade under the trees, a cinema, wine museum and many historical places of interest.

You'll enjoy visiting the many nearby towns and villages. A must trip is to Albi, about 30 minutes drive, the capital city of the Tarn region with its famous Romanesque cathedral overlooking the river Tarn. The birthplace of Toulouse-Lautrec, here you will find in a museum dedicated to the artist the world's largest collection of the artist's work. Walking along it's pretty cobbled streets, you'll soon discover this is a shopper's paradise and a gourmet's delight.

If it is bastides you are interested in, Lautrec, Castelnau de Montmiral, Puycelci, Bruniquel and Cordes to name but a few, are on the doorstep. A little further afield, Cahors, Castres, and Carcassonne are steeped in history and have picture postcard settings. We've spent many enjoyable evenings here, sitting at pavement cafes, watching the world go by.

Last but not least make sure you have time to visit Toulouse, the Capital of French rugby and capital of the region (Occitania) it is less than an hour away. Cosmopolitan and enthusiastic the " Ville Rose" joyously mixes heritage and lifestyle, great cultural events and festival pleasures. Toulouse is an absolute must for everyone. At once both modern and proud of the legacy of its past, open and radiant, you are bound to be seduced by the incomparable Toulousain lifestyle, coupled with the wealth of its cultural heritage. Your stay in Toulouse will certainly be a time of great pleasure. Toulouse is a city to satisfy the taste of every enthusiast of the arts. Classical concerts, lyrical art, jazz, variety and electro-acoustic music. Of all the French provincial cities, Toulouse has one of the most intensely cultural calendars. In Toulouse, gastronomy is part of the lifestyle. Eating well is of the utmost importance. Toulouse is as lively by night as by day. Nearby Spain has passed on its taste for long festive evenings. Great encounters, concerts, and festivals or simply a desire to enjoy, any excuse will do to get together and have fun with all the city's night-time pleasures.

From the Garonne to the Canal du Midi, and from Saint Sernin Cathedral to the Cité de l'espace, the many different faces of Toulouse invite visitors to come on a journey of discovery. For the Art enthusiast there are numerous churches, museums and galleries, and may be navigate on the Garonne river or the canals.

Cycling: Bikes may be hired locally. The terrain is undulating with some steep hills, at the top of many of which is a fortified village with a bar and café.

Canoeing, Kayaking: Canoeing on the River Tarn at Ambialet [a 45-minute drive] is excellent, just tricky enough for those with experience but safe enough for children

Kitchen was not clean at arrival. Swimming pool was nice but the water was not clear/was rather green. The poolman visited but this change not much. 5 of the 6 loungers were cracked (not really useable without the risk of getting your skin trapped)

Great pool for summer
We overall had a relaxing stay at Les Figuiers. The pool was wonderful and, as we had hot weather, we took full advantage of it, swimming every day. The house is good for staying cool due to it's thick stone walls. We did however find it quite dark inside the house and wonder if more lighting might be needed. There were a couple of issues with cleanliness but this may have been down to previous holiday makers. In summary a pleasant week but the standard of the house did not match the very high standard of the pool.

Scenic Retreat
We had a lovely stay at Les Figuiers. The setting is fabulous with a vista of rolling farmland and woodland. The pool is very impressive. Good size. Well positioned. The house had everything we needed for eight people. Cutlery, crockery, kitchen utensils and BBQ facilities and the water pressure was surprisingly good. I recommend the venue and would not hesitate to return.

Beautiful views, well equipped house and stunning pool
This is the second time we’ve stayed at Les Figuiers and it was as fantastic as we remembered. The views from the garden are stunning. The pool was a big draw for us - large, immaculately clean and looking out onto the beautiful scenery. Our children spent a large part of each day in there whilst we relaxed on the loungers beside it. The farmhouse is well equipped and has everything you’d need and it stays cool during the heat of the day. There’s plenty of activities to do in the surrounding area if you are so minded or you can just relax and take in the peacefulness that surrounds you. Highly recommended.

Charming traditional farmhouse with a truly amazing pool and views
We stayed as a group of 9, two couples, five children between 5 and 12. The property is well equipped with French rural charm in spades. The photos don’t do the size or views from the pool and garden justice, both are brilliant. We spent 6 days, and we would have stayed another week. We only left the property for one full day, partly because it was really hot, and partly because we had everything we needed! (Fans, pool, fridge, showers!) The property is an old farmhouse, with really thick walls that keep the heat out. The local villages and towns have restaurants and shopping to eat in or out. The owners were super responsive for a couple of tiny things, and the place is clearly well loved from other reviews and the guest book. If you’re looking for a summer, rural retreat, especially with children then this is a great choice. When we arrived 3/5 kids could swim, now it’s 4!

Special family times in Les Figuiers
We have had a lovely stay in a very characterful house and despite not having brilliant weather we had a very special time. It is an excellent area for lots of exploring in both car and on foot. There is an excellent collection of games too so when the thunder and lightening came we were happy and cosy playing an assortment of games!!! The pool was fabulous but unfortunately the weather wasn't!!! Friendly people all around as always in France.

Absolutely wonderful
We were here for our daughter's wedding and the whole family loved, loved, loved the property and the fantastic pool. Hard to say what was best.. The history of the house, the views, the pool...or the wedding! We would love to come back and do it all again.!

Spacious, tranquil and well-equipped with an amazing pool
We stayed at Les Figuiers for one week with our two daughters and family friends who also have two daughters. The house is spacious and very well-equipped with lots of character and history too. The kitchen has everything you need and all of the white goods were modern and worked well. The bedrooms were all spacious with comfortable beds. And the bathrooms were good, especially the upstairs one that was large. The gardens were nice and well maintained. We thought it would be good to have a perimeter fence to keep our dog from investigating the area but appreciate that it could detach from the views. The pool was incredible, bigger than we thought, with beautiful views of the countryside. Brilliant too to have it fenced off. All in all, a wonderful holiday and a great house. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Perfect venue for family holiday
We are two families with 6 children between us and they all agreed this was the best house we have stayed in. We like a holiday where the adults can relax and the children can entertain themselves, and this fitted the bill. The pool is large and in a lovely spot with an uninterrupted view; the garden includes beautiful trees and room for the kids to explore. The house was generously supplied with essentials, and we really appreciated the wine on arrival: I hope we left the store cupboard in good shape. Your neighbour kindly gave us some of her organic tomatoes on the first day: we bought more during the week, and eggs too. It was easy to find the house with the directions provided (we didn't have satnav, but this wasn't a problem). The owners were helpful in answering any questions we had about wifi etc. There are plenty of options for shopping in Lavaur: we only made use of the Super-U and Intermarche but there is plenty of information about other options. The 15th of August was a public holiday, which we didn't know, but the Intermarche was open that day anyway. We don't tend to take many trips with the children in tow, especially as the garden and pool were so good. However, we did visit Albi, with its impressive cathedral and the Toulouse Lautrec gallery. Nearby, Giroussens has a pretty view over the Agout, and also an interesting ceramic art gallery. On our way home we had a day in Toulouse, and would thoroughly recommend the natural history museum, which the children described as "epic"!
