Dear Expedia Customer Service,
I booked a standard double bed room through Expedia with Gaslamp Plaza Suites in San Diego for 8/30-9/1. Before booking, I called the hotel directly (Aug 25 at 10:49 PM) and was assured by staff that “double bed” meant two separate beds. Based on this confirmation, I chose this hotel over others.
Upon check-in, I was given a room with only one bed. When I called the front desk, staff admitted that standard rooms can come with either two twin beds or one queen, but told me the hotel was full due to Labor Day weekend and the only option was to pay an upgrade fee. I was denied the room type I had specifically booked and confirmed in advance.
To make matters worse, the front desk staff treated me rudely, dismissed my concerns, and even laughed and spoke about me in front of other guests—behavior that was extremely unprofessional and humiliating. Those other guest happened to be my extended family. It was a coincidence that we happened to be booked at the same hotel.
This experience amounts to false advertising and a breach of my booking terms, compounded by poor treatment. I am requesting a refund or appropriate compensation for not receiving the room type I reserved and confirmed.
