Welcome to The OB Overlook, a stunning modern retreat perched above the heart of Ocean Beach. This coastal escape blends sophisticated architecture, relaxed luxury, and sweeping 180° ocean views. On the second floor, you’ll find two beautifully appointed bedrooms, dedicated workspaces and a spa-like bathroom. Upstairs, the third-floor open-concept living, kitchen, and dining area open to a spectacular balcony — your front-row seat to breathtaking sunsets, surf, and a sparkling coastline.
The space
The OB Overlook is a peaceful, design-forward coastal retreat tucked above the heart of Ocean Beach — with sweeping ocean views, warm modern architecture, and the kind of easy indoor-outdoor living that makes San Diego feel instantly restorative.
Set behind our primary residence with its own private entrance, garage, balconies, and wraparound ocean-view deck, this standalone home offers complete privacy while keeping you close to everything OB does best: the beach, Sunset Cliffs, Dog Beach, Newport Avenue, farmers market, surf shops, coffee, tacos, breweries, and golden-hour walks.
Originally designed by Ocean Beach architect Steven Lombardi, the home has been featured in San Diego Home/Garden Magazine and was part of the Dwell Home Tour — but it’s not precious or museum-like. It’s meant to be lived in: slow mornings with coffee on the deck, sandy feet after the beach, dinner on the grill, quiet work calls with the ocean in view, and sunset conversations that stretch a little longer than planned.
Upstairs, the open living, dining, and chef’s kitchen flow out to a wraparound deck with panoramic coastline views from OB toward Pacific Beach, La Jolla, and beyond. Oversized doors welcome in the ocean breeze, while radiant floor heating and a gas fireplace keep things cozy on cooler mornings and evenings.
On the bedroom level, you’ll find two serene bedrooms, each with its own private balcony and dedicated workspace. The west-facing bedroom offers ocean views from bed — a pretty dreamy place to wake up, read, journal, or simply do nothing for a while.
We’ve stocked the home with the things we’d want for our own stay: fast 500 Mbps Wi-Fi with Eero mesh, smart TVs, a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, beach towels and chairs, boogie boards, beach cruisers, a kids kayak, a surfboard, children’s books and toys, crib, pack ’n play, high chair, and a private hot/cold outdoor shower for rinsing off after the beach.
This is a calm neighborhood retreat, best suited for families, couples, retirees, business travelers, creatives, and guests who appreciate architecture, ocean views, and quiet evenings. It is not a party house. Quiet hours are 9 pm to 6 am, and we care deeply about being good neighbors in the Ocean Beach community.
We live in the front house and are happy to share our favorite local recommendations — from where to grab the best breakfast burrito to the best sunset walk — while giving you plenty of privacy to enjoy the space as your own.
Whether you’re here for a family beach trip, a romantic weekend, a remote-work reset, or a longer San Diego stay, The OB Overlook is a relaxed, elevated home base for experiencing the best of coastal San Diego.
Guest access
Guests have private access to the entire standalone home, including:
Private side entrance through the garden walkway
Direct entry through the attached garage
Two bedrooms with private balconies
Full kitchen, dining, and living areas
Spa-style bathroom and laundry
Third-floor wraparound ocean-view deck
Private hot/cold outdoor shower
Beach gear and family-friendly amenities
Please note: the hot tub visible around the corner from the walkway belongs to the primary residence and is not available for guest use.
Other things to note
The home sits behind our primary residence, but it is fully private and self-contained. We’re nearby if you need anything, but you’ll have the space entirely to yourselves.
The home does NOT have air conditioning. It was designed for the Ocean Beach climate, with oversized doors and windows that bring in the coastal breeze. Oscillating fans are provided in both bedrooms.
This is a multi-level home with stairs required to access the bedrooms and living areas, so it may not be ideal for guests with mobility concerns.
The garage is available for guest use, though the angled driveway works best for one small or mid-size vehicle. Larger SUVs or vans may not fit comfortably. Free street parking is usually available nearby.
This is a quiet residential neighborhood, and we ask guests to be especially mindful outside on the deck after 9 pm.
