I have stayed in many VRBO locations and never had an issue, most of them I have returned to multiple times. This was different! From the beginning the communication wasn’t great. Once we arrived there were issues with the rental car that we had arranged through the host. Many different excuses made. I was told I would receive a credit because we had paid for a midsize vehicle and ended up with a compact. This never happened. The one positive thing about this location is the location and proximity to the ocean . That was absolutely delightful! Nowhere was it noted that the rental was under construction! Windows boarded up in areas and people actively working on it. Open outlets, open wiring, incomplete tiles in the kitchen. The kitchen was furnished with the bare minimum to cook and eat there. 2 plate, 1 bowl, a few odd pieces of silverware and a few very old, worn pans. I couldn’t have lived with all of this but the biggest problem occurred on our 3rd day there. We left for the day and upon returning to the rental our door was left open and the key was in the lock. Anyone passing by had full access to our unit and everything in it!! I messaged the owner that I wanted to see him right away and he said he wasn’t available that his sister was managing the property right now. I explained to him what had happened and at no point did he apologized. All he did was make excuses and stopped communicating completely! Only on the last day did he ask where the car was!
