We spent an overnight at the hotel in February and were upgraded to a suite due to ongoing works on the second floor. The hotel, staff, room and surrounding areas were all perfect and we would stay again in a heartbeat.

Very disappointing. They did not provide me with a room I booked. I booked the junior suite, which had been shown on photo, instead I was provided with a room which size was a exactly as a regular room. Strangely they said they also considered that room a junior suite while admitted it’s size and everything else is a same as regular room. No compensation or anything else was offered. The staff did not even apologise. They said the room which was on the photos (shown as junior suite) was busy, so I had to take the other or leave it. Finally, while I was checking in at 8:40 pm, they did not mention also that restaurant kitchen was closing at 9pm, so I also missed a dinner.

Last-minute overnight solo trip
Staff were really welcoming upon check-in, especially to Nellie (dog). Beautiful bedroom, not much of a view, but not in room much as such a great location. Minutes to both the beach and the shops. The shower was the best!

The negative unfortunately outweighed the positive, but the negative can be fixed. The positive: * Location was great, you could walk to everything. * L'Occitane amenities The negative: * The staff was not overly friendly and when you asked for something they seemed bothered. * Our room had a view although you had to stand to see it - if you sat in the chairs you couldn't see the view so nice but not easily enjoyed. * The bathroom toilet wouldn't flush, you had to hold it down three times to get it to flush and wait for the water to fill up inbetween * The maid left used amenities in the bathroom - the holder for eartips was missing the eartip cleaners and was opened. * On the Saturday night the students were hanging around the Aquarium and it was noisy until after 1am - we had to keep our windows closed which made the room hot. * There was no plug for the hair dryer in the bathroom so I had to unplug the coffee machine and plug it in there. Problem was the closest mirror wouldn't be reached by the cord of the dryer so you couldn't see what was going on. * First night ordered room service, was so good. On the 2nd night our food at the restaurant was horrible so I ordered the same items from room service because they were so good. They immediately came with ice for our drinks, then came back about 10 minutes later with bread, then 20 minutes later with the entree, so had to get up three times. The bacon was not cooked, was about 5 chips on my plate. Not good.

Luxurious stay in great location
Hote is excellently located and within east walking distance of the town centre and the Old, Jubilee and New Golf Courses. Staff were superb, we got a relatively cheap upgrade to a deluxe room on the day. Breakfast was really good, cooked to order with a lot of choice. Evening bar was great atmosphere, good quality drinks and not a complete rip off. Highly recommended

Scottish hospitality....so disappointing
Surprise trip for my wife's 40th birthday. Having been 10 times previously and knowing the room we love - i specifically requested the room and got notification from the hotel to say the room had been confirmed...all excellent until check in. New staff compared to what we had become accustomed (i appreciate the difficulties of hospitality recruitment/retention), but we were given a different junior suite. The room was most definitely not the level of junior suite i had been accustomed to at this hotel. I asked for an alternative which i was told they would have a look without any care and told they were full. The room Ardbeg was dark and tired at best - certainly not worth junior suite prices. I even asked for a downgraded room to no avail. It thereafter became apparent there were only 2 rooms on the level open due to refurb work. The workers were quiet albeit 3pm at check in drilling away and 9am again drills/electric screwdrivers and language not ideal when my young daughter was about. Postive - the boy at breakfast was very switched on and able to cope alone providing excellent customer service unlike his colleagues. On the whole i was really disappointed having been such frequent visitors and that loyalty seeming to count for nothing instead getting put up in the construction area. I doubt I'll be back as such a special event was ruined in part by the room provide, the works ongoing and with what i'd class as lazy and uninterested customer service.
