Avoid.

Undoubtedly my worst ever hotel experience. The pool advertised was not working. The place looked tired. But ultimately the room shower was blocked and water was around my ankles which was disgusting. I had to leave the property after 30 minutes and find another place to stay. The receptionist Sue was helpful but couldn’t do anything as no maintenance at night.

One night stay with the children.

The room was very big. And the beds were comfortable. But all in all the property is dated and needs work to get it back to its true beauty. However the staff were very friendly. And please note! The swimming pool is out of action! And will be for at least 6 or so months! (My calculation)

Fieldways four day stay in April 2025

This place was in a very old mansion and it was a fun place for a North American not used to this kind of stay. The owners were very nice and the breakfast was very good BUT
 it wasn’t very clean at all and I actually wrote “dust me”on the window sill. It would have been bad for anyone suffering from asthma. It was so cold (April) that we had to wear our hoodies in the room. There was only one small bedside light about as bright as a Christmas tree one. We both couldn’t read because there was an extremely dim ceiling light so I sat on my phone all evening which I did out of desperation for something to do. ( It got dark at 8:00 so we wanted to be back before then) It was a fairly short walk to a pub or restaurant but I use a walker so we drove into the town for dinner which meant my husband couldn’t enjoy a pint which we like to do when in England. The main reason we booked here was because they had a pool. Well, we must be psychic because we just knew that would be the case. It seems to be the case in most hotels lol. Sad to say, that we can’t recommend this place at all.

There were a number of issues during my stay that fell far below expectations, particularly for the price and the way the hotel is advertised: The pool, which was a key reason for booking, was closed and had been for at least a week, but this was not mentioned at the time of booking. The reception area was unusable due to carpet works (presumably following a leak), which were being poorly installed and made the entrance feel unwelcoming. The room was not clean and in poor repair – curtain rails hanging off, cracked tiles, broken cupboards, and general untidiness. A boiler outside the room kept me awake, and the fire alarm went off twice during the night, causing further disruption. The skylight in the room had no blind, making it very bright and uncomfortably hot Although breakfast itself was good, the tables were cleared with a dustpan and brush, leaving grease and stains on the tablecloths. There was visible rubbish left throughout the hotel, which had not been cleared during the stay. At checkout, there was no staff member available. When I spoke to the chef, I was met with unprofessional and upsetting comments: “f'ing say what you like"

Beautiful old building, lovely interior straight out of an adventure novel. Good breakfast, pub for tea 10 minutes walk away. Only snag was the room felt hot for a northener, good job the window and skylight opened easily, a really good break had by all.

In need of some tlc but adequate

The bed was clean, warm and comfy, the towels were clean. The breakfast was lovely. I had a single room which was ok for a one night stay. The hosts were lovely and welcoming, but the room I had was in desperate need of some tlc, there were stains on the carpet, the wallpaper was peeling in several places, there was no way to open the windows which were filthy and covered in cobwebs. The door on the shower came off its frame, the arms on the chair were coming loose, if there was an extractor fan in the bathroom then it didn't work.

Organisation was poor, approach of the staff was wholehearted, but not at all professional. The room was very hot - the radiator broken full-on, only one ceiling light worked, no bedside lamp, tiny TV. This is a hotel with potential that needs some love, and staff that need support.

Rooms need drastically updating, mould around the sink and shower. Breakfast was a joke, freezing cold room to eat in, very limited selection of drinks. I was surprised not to see Manuel from Faulty towers there.

Fieldways - One night stay

Check in was easy & all staff were extremely friendly & helpful . No doubt in it's day , this was an amazing very high end luxury home but is currently in need of a little TLC . The breakfast & dining room need to be seen to be really appreciated & made up for the tired bedroom which I did sleep ok in . Breakfast was cooked to order & was very good . No evening meals but the Codfather fish & chip restaurant is just a few minutes away in town was also really good with great staff .
