Great home, but property management needs an upgrade
Let's start with the good. This home is well laid out for a family (master upstairs, other bedrooms downstairs). It has a beautiful woodsy view out the front and back, working wood stove, and cozy open plan kitchen/dining/living space. It has been immaculately maintained by the owner (pristine carpet, nice linens, etc.) Location is perfect as well, and the garage is so convenient. The kids had fun playing in the back yard in the snow. The property management, however, seems lacking. We arrived in the evening and were unable to get into the cabin with the provided code, neither the garage nor front door. We had to spend 15 minutes on the phone going back and forth with different codes in the freezing cold. We finally got in and discovered the water wasn't turned on so the kids couldn't use the bathroom. At first the property management had us *crawling in the crawl space* looking for the main water valve, only to double check with another contact who shared it was in the front bedroom closet. The coffee maker had moldy coffee left in it so we ended up cleaning it up. Lastly, cleaning instructions that were not disclosed in advance (on VRBO or the rental agreement) included stripping all of the beds and gathering towels and doing laundry. It just dampens the desired experience of a 1k/day property.
This nearly-brand new home is appealingly decorated and well supplied with nearly everything our family of 7 (5 teenagers!) needed for a week's stay in Tahoe-Donner for our annual summer week's family reunion. The VRBO vs local rental agency property manager fees were a bit confusing and while the local rental agency property manager was fairly responsive, the VRBO didn't respond to anything! We would defiantly rent this property again.
