Enlighten your senses in a lush rain forest of Costa Rica!

Paradise Lodge Bed and Breakfast is located in a charming Costa Rican village just 5 kilometers from the famous 20-million-year-old Venado caves (Cavernas de Venado). We welcome you to a quaint Tuscan-style villa perched on a rolling 3-acre hillside at the border of Costa Rica's verdant rain forest, where you may experience a rare blend of restful tranquility, exciting exploration, and unforgettable experiences. Costa Rica's breathtaking scenery and abundant wildlife are sure to stimulate your senses. Listen to the howler monkeys, frogs, iguanas, and butterflies as they chirp and hop around their natural habitat. You may easily do grocery shopping or grab convenient items within walking distance.

We serve a full Costa Rican breakfast every day, including farm fresh eggs and fruit, as well as basic cleaning, laundry, and shopping services on request. On-site river access for fishing and swimming, as well as comprehensive tour arrangements at the best prices to maximize your visit.

A huge open floor layout with a separate dining and living room. A fully equipped kitchen and a patio barbecue are available for dining in or picnicking outside.
The master suite's spaciousness, master bathtub, walk-in closet, and private patio provide home-like comfort. Two persons can be accommodated in a second bedroom with a queen-size bed and a half bath. There is also a queen-size day bed in an open area with curtains for privacy.

Tours can be arranged for all ages. We work with licensed tour guides to arrange adventure tours, hot springs, and excursions in and around the stunning Rio Celeste National Park and the city of La Fortuna. For an additional fee, transportation can also be arranged to and from the San Jose International Airport, or for convenient trips.

About the hosts: Carol and Jim are Americans living in the lush rainforest adjacent to Paradise Lodge Bed and Breakfast. Jim is a long standing life member of the Magic Castle of Hollywood, so be prepared to see a bit of magic during your stay. Carol is fluent in Spanish and takes great pleasure in being an aid to all your needs.

The hosts Carol & Jessica were very good at communicating with us ahead of time. They warmly greeted us, and helped us plan our three days in the La Fortuna area. A very nice hot breakfast is included and both women checked in on us regularly to make sure the vacation was going well. The jungle nearby had many parrots, parakeets and other colorful birds. Twice we heard howler monkeys, which was wonderful. This is a homey, comfortable place about 40 minutes from La Fortuna. Although we went to town for excursions, we are glad we stayed away from tourists spots in this lovely, quiet setting.

Carol and Jessica made our stay wonderful! Breakfast was great and they were very accommodating. The house fit our group of 9 well. Getting there was a little intimidating for the first time but once we figured the area out it was a breeze.

Jungle stay

Carol and Jim are very caring hosts. Carol cooked fantastic, authentic Costa Rican breakfasts. Jim had coffee ready to go every morning. Carol was able to get us a discounted price at The Springs thermal pools, which we would recommend. They provide light housekeeping daily and are always available for questions and advice about the local area. We found the kitchen well equipped. While we were not able to river fish on their property, she was able to arrange for our group of four to try tilapia fishing at their neighbours pond and that was a great experience! We did walk down the well maintained trail to the river and enjoyed some wading in the river surrounded by rain forest. The air conditioning is only in the two bedrooms. It was not working properly in the loft bedroom, so the couple staying in that room found it quite warm and humid to sleep. Overall, a lovely stay in the jungle!

We had a lovely stay here at this property. They keep it very clean. The owners are so kind and helpful! They make the best breakfasts. Carol was also very great in helping me book excursions and giving me advice for things to do.

Review

Carol and Jim are outstanding hosts. They care about their guests. Breakfast was very nice. The property was advertised to sleep 10 and we were a party of 9, it was a bit tight. Believe it is really good for 6 or family with small children. Off the beaten path and a good drive to what we wanted to do while in the Arenal area. Price was very good for high season but plan to be driving a lot to get to recreational areas. Waze isn't as good here as google maps but you will need one or the other to navigate.

Great stay

Overall a great stay, good house for the value, especially compared to other available options. Host was very easy to communicate with, and also helped us plan some tours and got us discounts. The town of Jicarito is a little bit further from La Fortuna than we anticipated (40 mins-1 hour to various popular attractions), but the drive is very pretty. Hot water a bit difficult to use and inconsistent. Fresh breakfast each morning was great!

Wonderful hosts!

We enjoyed our stay at Jessica’s home in near La Fortuna. Jessica, Carol, and Jim were wonderful hosts that went out of their way to make our stay special. Carol communicated constantly prior and during the stay and offered help and useful advice with tours and activities. The daily breakfast exceeded expectations with different Costa Rican treats every day. The home itself was well equipped and comfortable with sufficient independent spaces for our family. Overall, a great stay for our family!! Thank you Jessica, Carol, and Jim!!

We felt spoiled!

Carol, Jim, and Jessica were so great to work with. The house was clean and maintained regularly throughout our stay. More than a week before arriving, Carol reached out and offered help with scheduling activities. She was so helpful (and patient) in getting experiences scheduled for us with great companies and clustered by area. We never would have known how to get that done on our own. The location is secluded and felt very safe. They served an amazing breakfast (All local dishes) every morning and even accommodated early morning leave times. Can’t go wrong staying with Paradise BB

Lake Arenal Adventure

James and Carol's place makes the perfect basecamp for experiencing and exploring the many natural attractions in the La Fortuna / Lake Arenal area. Carol was a phenomenal hostess, going above and beyond our expectations. Not only was she knowledgeable about the wide variety of activities & restaurants in the area, she even set up a number of our reservations and ticket purchases. When asked about taking a private boat tour of Lake Arenal she had a contact that offered us a great trip for about 1/2 of what we'd expected to pay. She and Jim also recommended that we tour the caverns nearby, which turned out to be the highlight of our entire Costa Rica trip. The breakfast spreads that they served each morning were an unexpected treat. While we knew breakfast was included, we had no idea that we'd be treated to such a wide variety of fresh and authentic local dishes. You won't be disappointed staying with Carol and Jim. We'd highly recommend them to anyone visiting the area.
