The Space:
This charming English basement apartment offers a convenient location near many of DC’s most interesting attractions and trendiest restaurants and bars in iconic Union Market and along H Street. Grab coffee, groceries, cocktails, and a bite to eat all within a 5–10 minute stroll. You’re nestled between two Red Line Metro stops, NoMa (about a 12‑minute walk) and Union Station (about a 15‑minute walk). Prefer not to walk? Ride the free streetcar along H Street right into Union Station and be on the Metro and down on the National Mall in minutes.
Ideal for business or sightseeing, the apartment comfortably sleeps 4 guests as follows:
- Queen‑sized bed in the bedroom
- Queen‑sized comfy sofa bed in the living room
The open kitchen lets you keep an eye on the action while you cook, making it easy to supervise kids or chat with friends. Quality appliances and thoughtful amenities make it simple to whip up a meal or enjoy takeout around the table for 4. Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are both within walking distance for last‑minute groceries and snacks.
The living room includes a large TV with Roku, perfect for streaming your favorite shows and unwinding after a full day in the city—a cozy recipe for a night in. The Tempur‑Pedic sofa bed here comfortably sleeps 2 guests.
In the bedroom, you’ll find a laptop‑friendly workspace (ideal for remote work or business travelers) and another smart TV with Roku for late‑night viewing. A luxurious queen‑sized bed and mid‑century modern furnishings create a calm, zen space to rest. A walk‑in closet provides ample storage for longer stays.
The large, fully renovated bathroom offers a bright, comfortable place to start and end your day. Please note: the bathroom is accessed through the bedroom.
Your search for a DC home base for business or pleasure stops here. This centrally located, completely renovated apartment gives you modern comfort with city life just outside your door.
As with many DC homes, the upper floors have full‑time occupants. The apartment is a completely separate unit with its own private entrance, but noise can travel. This is true city living, and we ask guests to be mindful of neighbors and normal household noise.
Guest Access:
Guests have exclusive access to the entire English basement apartment; it is not shared.
There is a family living upstairs, and everyday sounds of family life, footsteps, stairs, kids playing, can be heard in both directions. You will likely hear them as they go about their day, and they may hear you as well.
The Neighborhood:
You are just a 2‑minute walk from some of the most popular bars and restaurants on the H Street Corridor. Union Market and Gallaudet University are a short walk away, and Chinatown, Eastern Market, and Navy Yard are about a 5‑minute Uber or Lyft ride, depending on traffic. The neighborhood is lively and exciting, with unique bars and a wide range of entertainment options. From live music and comedy to improv and stage plays, guests interested in the arts, or simply looking to try something new, will not be disappointed.
Getting Around:
We are a quick 2‑minute walk to H Street, where you can hop on DC’s free streetcar, which runs along H Street to Union Station, one of the city’s major transit hubs. From Union Station, you can ride the Red Line or easily transfer to other Metro lines for access to the White House, the National Mall, and museums.
You are also close to several Capital Bikeshare stations and multiple bus lines, including the X1, X2, X3, X9, and B2. If you enjoy walking, Eastern Market, Union Market, Capitol Hill, the U.S. Capitol, and Union Station are all within comfortable walking distance. Nice little apartment
We enjoyed our stay. A quick Uber gets you to everything in DC. The townhouse is in a safe area on a quiet street. Minimal noise from above. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and Whole Foods was in walking distance as are a few restaurants.

Nice Place
Overall, the apartment was very nicely, decorated and well stocked with everything you would need. The only observation I would make is if you’re over 6’ 3” there were some challenges with low doorways.

Lovely Stay in DC
We had a great time. Easy walking distance to the H street car and many restaurants and bars.
A little early morning noise from the family upstairs but it’s manageable.

Wonderful Stay in Wonderful Location
We had such a wonderful stay at this property. It was exactly as described in the listing and even better. Located in a neighborhood, we felt like we were part of a community very soon after arriving, including getting to know "Fred" across the street who seems to be known as the Street Mayor and is full of stories, anecdotes, and a connection to DC's past.
We needed several more blankets and as soon as we asked for them, we had them in just a few hours.
When we arrived, we realized that we didn't have control over the AC, which at first worried us that we might not be cool enough. However, we were very pleased with the temperature that the owners upstairs kept the Central AC at and we were able to enjoy cool mornings with the window open by the front door that included being seranaded by Northern Cardinals, Mockingbirds, Robins, and a sonorous Gray Catbird!
The location is so well-suited for a visit to DC's main attractions as well as to public transporatation. We had no need for a car and enjoyed getting to know this part of the city (we lived in the Shaw Neighborhood for several years around 2004).
There is some noise that you will hear from upstairs but this was never an issue for us.
We highly recommend visiting Sidamo Coffee Shop while you're there and to just enjoy walking through the neighborhood on your way to the Mall or Union Station.
There is a Whole Foods and a Giant grocery store within 5 minutes walk and many other places to eat, peruse, and enjoy!
