Windermere really is a town for all seasons, the surrounding scenery changing in colour throughout the year and what better place to sample a first or return visit to Lakeland than Alexandra Cottage. In the heart of this popular town, yet on a quiet residential street, the cottage enjoys a level setting so makes an ideal base for leisurely strolls around the interesting and recently pedestrianised streets, lined with interesting shops, cafes and bars.
Alexandra Cottage presents as a comfortable, traditional home, perfect for your Lakeland family holiday. Being on three floors, the cottage is perfect for families as the bedrooms are set out over two floors with two bathrooms so a good degree of privacy can be enjoyed by all. Park up, unload and you may never need to use your vehicle again as Windermere offers an assortment of transport options including train from the station, Mountain Bus Companies and Stagecoach incorporating the 599 lakes Rider open top and the famous Windermere Steamers which depart from the pier at Bowness, a gentle stroll from Alexandra Cottage.
The property was very spacious and close to the park(for the dog), a nice pub ,The Brookside (for us) and the town centre with a good range of shops and eateries. Just a 25 minute walk into Bowness.
The property itself was in need of some TLC. It could do with a coat of paint and some finishing touches to make it appear more homely. The kitchen was well appointed but the gas hob needs a thorough clean. It was very greasy. One of the shower doors was wobbly so we just used the shower over the bath.
The main issue for us was the back yard. It obviously hadn't been swept for some time so every time the dog went out he walked dirt into the house. It certainly wasn't a pleasant place to sit and relax.
Overall the property was a little disappointing despite being in a good location with lots of room.
