Lots of potential
Very beautiful historic property with great views & location.
On negative side
-large airy village units only have warmish water not hot
- village units outdoor showers had waist high weeds
- supper menus are 5 course set menus that are repeated & are expensive for quality
- restaurant staff lacking management & training
- receptionists could do hostessing/oversight at meal times & spot checks on housekeeping/condition of units and gardens to support and train staff but do not
- lack of comfy outdoor seating at accom units
Positive side manor house units have character, pool area is lovely with v comfy recliners, rooms are clean with new bathrooms, access to amazing outdoor activities, you feel general staff really want to please but just need more training and support to do so
Historic country hotel with great ambience and wonderful staff. We arrived during a cold snap to a warm welcome. There was a lovely wood fire burning in the reception/sitting area and we were offered tea/coffee with scones immediately after checking in. We were shown to our rooms which were a 2 minute walk from the main hotel area. The rooms were very spacious and clean, with all the amenities.
Friendly staff, amazing accommodation, in the mountains by Addo Elephant Park.
Excellent Addo trip direct from the hotel. Our guide Brighton was amazing.
Wonderful food, lounge areas & pool.
Amazing 2 night stay.
Excellent once again. Second visit to the Zuurberg Village Inn and enjoyed it as much as the first time. Friendly staff and excellent service. Awesome breakfast and overall good spread of food at the dinner buffet. Can perhaps consider a hearty oxtail stew or lamb curry as an optional choice with the buffet. Our room was once again spotless and the privacy excellent. Well done all staff at this facility. Much appreciated!
Great hotel tucked away high in the Zuurberg Pass, with awesome views of the valley and Addo Elephant NP. The hotel was built last century, and has the charm of an African Safari Lodge. The staff have been working there for years, and are great for whatever you need. Nice gardens to walk around. It's a little remote, but an excellent and wonderful get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
This is a very well-run hotel that dates back 150+ years to when the treckers use to go through the Zuurburg Pass. It's a phenomenal place with great views and good proximity to Addo Elephant National Park. Breakfast and food were excellent, and the atmosphere is like a 1920's game lodge. The gardens and grounds are well-kept, and the chalets are amazingly decorated. If you do stay here, take the road from the south and not the north (the Zuurburg Pass is really for 4X4 plus vehicles). The air is 20 degrees F cooler up at this location in the mountains.
Staff are great. Food is excellent. Yes, there is a 16km (10mile) mountain pass - currently unpacked but being upgraded- but worth it. Monkeys, birds, views!
The hotel is ideally located out of town but still accessible to visitors. I found the place well run, staff were friendly and helpful and the catering was excellent.
The natural beauty and the historic significance combine to present a most charming venue which enchants those who seek a sense of connection with the past backed by the comforts of the present.
All in all we had a most enjoyable stay unsullied by anything.

A beautiful hotel set in the most beautiful part of South Africa. We felt like royalty from the time we arrived. The rooms were impecible and the service was outstanding.

Needs major improvement... extremely cold rooms without heat and building needs also to be upscaled urgently. But the major issue was at dinner when a lady (probably the owner) approached us explaining that because there was not going to be electricity the next day I had to prepay all expenses + any future expenses, which I gladly did... but there was no electricity shortage the next day, even when I asked an employee they didn’t know what was so talking about. It seems to me and please correct me if I am wrong that somehow Spanish speaking visitors are not welcome. On the other hand all the service personnel was very nice.
