3 bedroom farmhouse with 3m splash pool, sleeps 6/8, pretty views, Arganil 2 km
A charming renovated old farmhouse in a quiet location in the village of Alagoa approx. 1.5kms from the main district town of Arganil. The house is approached by a quiet lane that leads on to the apple orchards and the local vineyards of the village. The house can accommodate up to 8 people with a good quality sofa bed in the living room. A circular above ground splash pool, 3m in diameter, has been added this year and is a private pool in the garden of Casa de Alagoa and is not shared with other houses. The large lounge has comfortable seating for 8 including a high quality sofa bed, Portuguese satellite TV (some English channels), CD/DVD player, Wi fi internet access, books and games and a dining table and chairs seating up to 8. Many original features have been retained including the old wood beams and the natural stone wall. There is a wood burner for the cooler winter months with a complimentary basket of logs on arrival, more logs can be provided at an extra cost or bought in the super markets in Arganil. The well equipped kitchen has a gas stove, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, kettle, toaster etc. The main double bedroom has a double bed and ensuite bathroom and a private terrace overlooking the garden and surrounding countryside. The second double bedroom has a double bed and the third bedroom has 2 single beds, there is also another separate shower room, towels can be provided on request. The private garden has a stone BBQ and outside dining furniture with views across the vineyards and apple orchards of Alagoa to Arganil and the distant mountains. Arganil is the main district town with supermarkets, shops, restaurants and cafes, there is entertainment in the square at the weekend during the summer. The river is 500ms from the house and the river beach at Sarzedo, where the council have also built a swimming pool, is less than 2 kms away and can be reached by a short walk. There is another pretty river beach in Secarias approx. 2 kms away where you can hire pedaloes and there are restaurants and cafes there. Coimbra is an ancient capital of Portugal and approx. 45 kms away. The Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain range with skiing in winter, approx. 50kms away. This area of Portugal is relatively undiscovered by main stream tourists giving it a much more restful feel. The scenery is beautiful with rivers flowing through the green valleys and the little villages nestled on the mountain sides. An ideal place to visit for a relaxing holiday in the sun!
Charming house, very clean and well equipped. The small pool is perfect for toddlers that donât know/are learning how to swim! Our daughter loved it! Wonderful setting in great location! Jane is the best! She is the sweetest and most helpful host! I totally recommend staying in casa de Alagoa! We had such relaxing days, I will definitely would like to come back with my family and/or friends :)
Rural, peaceful and very large comfortable cottage
Jane is a wonderful host and made sure we had everything (and more) that we needed throughout our stay. The house is really large and comfortable with lots of lovely touches to make it feel really homely.
The kitchen is huge and is very well stocked with even all of the basic food items provided. The living space is also big and very comfortable. We were using the log burner and kept very cosy throughout our 5 weeks stay over November and December.
Upstairs there are 2 bathrooms, one is an ensuite to the master bedroom which also has a large sunny balcony. There are another 2 lovely bedrooms.
Outside is a large sunny patio and garden area with outdoor furniture and a barbecue.
The location is rural and beautiful. We walked to the shops in Arganil which took about 20 minutes. There are good size supermarkets and lots of nice coffee shops and a very good bakery too. Around the area are so many great places to visit. I would particularly recommend Fraga da Pena which is a series of beautiful pools and waterfalls but Jane has a very detailed information pack at the cottage with everything you might need to know.
I would definitely recommend staying here if you like mountains, being in nature and the more authentic Portugal, off the main tourist agenda but plenty to do and see.

A tranquill place to stay
The house is well renovated, quite specious and clean. It is set in a beautiful rural area among vineyards and orange orchards. A nice river beach is quite close and the area is full of great places to visit such as historical monuments and natural reserves. We spent a week there having great fun discovering the neighbourhood and it was definitely not enough! We will be back some day!
A lovely house that had been recently renovated and was absolutely charming with everything that we needed for our 2 week stay. We spent a lot of our time at the various river beaches in the area and made good use of the BBQ in the garden. Definitely recommend for a family or group of friends.
We spent a week in Case de Alagoa and it was a perfect retreat! An old stylishly refurbished house in an unspoilt quiet surrunding set among the orchards and vinyards. It is a great place to relax and also a perfect location for explorig the area and the centre of Portugal. The house is equiped with everything you may need and Jane is a great host, willing to help with everything. Her directions are so gret that we managed to find the house at 1 am! She also prepared a great booklet about what to do and where to go around the place which is really helpful if you don't speak Portuguese! Thanks Jane once again for everything, we will definitely come back some day!!!
