We had let the property manager know we would be arriving at 2AM. When we arrived the code they provided for the lock box did not work. Thus at 2AM we could not access the unit!! We reached out immediately, but did not receive a response until 7:30AM - when they said, try this different code for the lock box!!! They gave us the wrong code. We had to find a hotel in the middle of the night in order to have a place to stay. Also I had specifically searched properties in Athens with "Available Parking" which to me means a specific parking spot available. After receiving the check in instructions, where there was no info on the parking I asked for details about the parking and was informed that there was "parking available on the street" - if you could find it. When we arrived the area was very rough, with people relieving themselves on the sidewalks, much graffiti, and garbage. It felt like an area where ones car, with foreign plates, could easily be targeted for a break in. We did not return to the VRBO rental, as we had very limited time in Athens and a full itinerary booked. We stayed only at the hotel we found. I requested a full refund for our VRBO rental because of the extreme inconvenience. They refused, initially saying no refund at all was possible because the booking was through a third party. I said this was unacceptable, and they then said they would refund the first night only. I have escalated this issue with VRBO and their team is investigating.
