Everything was just right! My family enjoyed our Thanksgiving Holiday stay at the "The Garden St. House". The kitchen was even plenty big enough for us to prepare our Thanksgiving feast, and it was equipped with almost everything we needed. My grandaughters made friends with the children nextdoor. It was great place for a family gathering. The owner was very helpful and responded promptly to every question I had. The place was very cozy, comfortable and clean. Just as described on the website.
Pleasant and Comfortable House in a Great Neighborhood
A family group of 7 stayed here for two nights for an event in east Austin. The owner, Paprika Leaverton, responded promptly each time to my needs/questions in making the reservation. The house was clean and has a kitchen that is well-stocked with dishes and utensils for cooking. Everything was in working order and there are lots of table surfaces available for keeping our belongings organized. There was plenty of seating and the beds were comfortable. It is an older home that retains its vintage charm. One of the best parts of the stay was the neighborhood. I have lived in Austin in the past and was surprised about how vibrant east Austin has become. There are tons of cute coffee shops and eateries in waking distance from the house. It is an active, lively community with people of all ages and cultures living there. Lots of homes were in the process of being renovated. People were everywhere, out walking their dogs or getting around on bikes. It was fun to sit on the front porch and watch. Despite all the activity, and proximity of the houses, it was surprisingly VERY quiet at night. Not a single dog bark or car was heard! The trash pick up was a tad noisy one morning, but that happens in any neighborhood.Someone lives upstairs, but you wouldn't know it. My one suggestion is that the middle bedroom could use a mirror above the desk for getting dressed when others are occupying one of the two nice bathrooms. I would love to stay here again.

Great for my whole family
My family went to Austin this past weekend for a wedding. We chose to stay at the Garden St. House because it offered the most affordable price for the amount of sleeping and seating space my family needed. The house has a unique feel to it, which resonates with the "Keep Austin Weird" slogan. My family appreciated the unique setting, especially since it accommodated all of us within our budget. There was enough sleeping for 8, and we could also all sit in the living room together to talk and play games. We could also all fit comfortably around the kitchen area to enjoy our daily brunch together. The location was very convenient. This house was a great fit for my family's 4-day getaway.
Very relaxing East Austin house. Well equipped, great back patio, friendly neighbors. We'll be back.

Great location!
Enjoyed the quiet neighborhood, proximity to Ladybird Lake and walking trails, couple of great restaurants nearby by (try the Don Juan at Juan in a Million), and you can even try you skill on a trapeze a few blocks down Chavez. About a half hour walk to Rainy Street restaurants. House has a nice front porch and back patio and yard, both of which we used a lot. Quirky older home, which we enjoyed. Hard to open some of the windows, but enough opened for us to be comfortable in spring weather.
Everything from the booking process to arrival went really well. The place was lovely and cosy and had pretty much what you needed for a short stay. We rented the Garden St House for 2 weeks during SXSW and it was perfect. While we were far enough from the hustle and bustle of downtown to get rest and work undisturbed, it was only a 30 min walk to the convention centre. I would definitely stay again if in Austin.
