We really enjoyed our stay in one of the four-plex units, and we would come again.
Things we really liked:
1) They still provide real, wood-burning fireplaces. Their firewood supply was inside their parking garage, so it was warm, dry, not covered in snow, and plentiful. Two thumbs up!! We had a fire each night (winter stay) and loved it.
2) Very helpful front desk staff, who knew the area. Thank-you for great advice and tips about skiing and restaurants.
3) Their waterslides and hot tubs are really nice. There was one evening, though, when the outdoor hot tub was not hot enough.
Things we didn't mind, but which other people might:
The unit we were in was showing signs of its age. It's still quaint, and we loved it, but the shower diverter only diverted half the water to the shower head while the tub faucet continued to pour. Several cupboard doors didn't close properly. There was a baited mousetrap under the coffee table. Things like that.
One negative:
1) The pool area closes at 9pm. Seriously? As a group of adults, coming back after a full day of skiing at Lake Louise, we went out for dinner & drinks in Banff and then came back to Douglas Fir expecting to enjoy an end-of-day soak in the hot tub, only to find that it closed at 9pm every night. Other places I've stayed at close the hot tub to children at that time and remain open for adults until midnight. I highly recommend to Douglas Fir that they consider extending their hours.
