Classic Bait & Switch Scam

Classic Bait & Switch. Was not informed place under renovations until the sign at the desk. Horribly stained carpets, stained kitchen chairs, 1 bathroom door did not close, curtains torn, 1 broken, couch appeared broken, paint platter on doors, stairs up to unit under repair, bannister broken, coffee maker did not work, microwave blitzy. Icing on the cake was somehow the deadbolt locked behind us and we were locked out of the room our second night. Required breaking the deadbolt to get in to the room and access our belongings. The photos pictured are NOT ACCURATE.

We picked this hotel because it was affordable for parents weekend at UVM. The property is in the process of being updated so it needs a little TLC but hopefully they do a good job on the renovations

We had issues with this property from start to finish First, there was an issue with billing. Expedia noted that first payment was paid at time of booking. But the hotel insisted on charging us the full amount not accounting for our first payment. Another guest we met there said that they had the same issue Second, the interior of the unit was not what was in the photos or as a described. We got the 2 bed loft. There were not separate rooms or doors on the bedrooms. It was completely open The furniture and the carpets were stinky and dirty and the carpet was frayed. We put throw blankets on the couch before sitting on them There were bugs walking on the counters and we found a wasp, earwigs and spiders on the beds and bathrooms The exterior was in the process of renovation which I won’t complain about - though the price didn’t reflect the condition Finally, there were guests that were partying all night , the police were called and they left empty alcohol bottles and meatballs around the sidewalks. We paid almost $325 a night. This was not what was expected The staff was pleasant though

NO! Just NO!

I was already disappointed after checkin when we were charged $150 for our dogs for only two nights. The stay just went down from there. It was 68* in the room when we got there, but we like to sleep in a freezer, so we turned it down and made some dinner. This was not an easy feat though because we had a four person room with only silverware for about 2.5 people. There also wasn’t much in the way of gear in there, and what they had was dirty and gross to use. When we went to bed, the temp had climbed to 69*. This was slightly concerning, but we hoped maybe it was from cooking. The kids slept on the sofa bed. If you have more than one kid, please just get a room with two real beds. Mine are teens, so not small anymore, and the sofa bed was awful. They pretty much didn’t sleep for two nights. In the morning, the temp was up to 70*. We talked to the lady at the front desk who offered to send maintenance, but we had the dogs in the room and were going to be out for a couple of hours, so we asked her not to. The temp eventually hit 76*, but by that point, it was too late to move. We were trying to get packed to leave early the next morning. On top of the broken AC, breakfast wasn’t great, and the room was falling apart. The kitchen sink didn’t drain, there was a dip in the bathtub that collected water from the previous person’s shower and never drained, the cabinets were dirty and falling apart, and the paint was chipping. The screen door was more holes than screen.

Rooms are nice, spacious, clean. The hair conditioner was empty so my hair is a wreck today (I always bring some with me but it got used up at previous hotels on my trip that didn’t have any) I think they are in the process of renovating outside at the hotel, didn’t affect the stay…

The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were not the best. The definitely have that kind of cheap and run down aspect, cutting corners and not very clean. Cobwebs on the ceiling in the kitchen, mold in the bathtub and the icing on the cake was the black mold on the ceiling. Instantly asked for a refund. Staff helped out with the refund and that went smoothly.

Our first room had plastic wrap over the smoke alarm. When I called the front desk he said he would bring a key right away. After we quickly packed everything back up, 2 more calls and 45 min, he finally arrived and moved us to a new room. The new room had stains on everything. The wall, the bed sheets, the floor, the couch. Not a pleasant experience at all. Did not feel comfortable or safe. When we checked out in the morning, there was nothing they could do because we booked with Expedia. Don’t really plan on staying at a sonesta property again.

Unit has many flaws. They are painting exterior, overspray on concrete, unit entry door, sidewalks, stairs, grass and plants. Rotten wood on many handrails. Coffee table in unit has huge crack on top, as does the dining table. Residue on bathtub. Bathtubs need slip strips! Hallway in office area has huge hole punched in it. Baseboard heater in unit is hanging off the wall. First floor bath light fixture is corroded. Pictures on Expedia are of some other property. I expect better from Sonesta!
