Olive Tree, Superb gîte, Heated Pool near Carcassonne, overlooking Canal du Midi

At the edge of a lovely village in the south Minervois of the Languedoc, right alongside the spectacular Canal du Midi & only 15min away from the famous walled Medieval Cite of Carcassonne. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This listing is for Olive Tree which has an aspect over the garden. We also offer another gîte, Canal View, which has a view over the lock at Marseillette. This other gîte can be found under the reference 52941. We find a few guests like to book both gîtes as it is the perfect opportunity to holiday with up to 8 guests. Both gîtes are fully equipped, each sleeping 4 + Cot, which can prove to be an ideal base to explore the many attractions in and around the area.

A large HEATED SWIMMING POOL 10m by 5m (32 x 16ft) with Roman steps for easy access and spacious surrounding terrace .(May - Oct) Both gîtes share the relaxing pool which is set in approx. 2 acre garden. 8 sun lounger’s and 3 reclining chairs are provided around the pool on the large decking and tiled surround, offering spacious and unobtrusive sunbathing area with extensive views of the hills and vineyards. Private off road parking in gated garden. Both gîtes have their own patios for BBQ and sunbathing. Ideal location for visiting the many attractions or just soaking up the sun. The Mediterranean Sea and beaches are 40min drive.

The 2 Independent gîtes have the highest Meubles de Tourism rating for their size - Trois étoiles with private patios, garden furniture,and large stone BBQ.

Olive Tree is well equipped with all essential items provided. Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Microwave, Induction Hob, Electric oven, large Fridge/Freezer, kettle, coffee maker, Toaster, Cool Box, Flat screen TV, DVD player, Radio/Hi-Fi. Free Wi-Fi, docking station for iPod/iPhone.

Large modern showers in each gîte. Clean, well maintained, freshly laundered bed linen & towels. We can provide Pool / Beach towels if you wish to save on luggage space.

Olive Tree Cottage has a south facing, fully fenced, private patio, for sunbathing and relaxing overlooking the garden towards the pool and the hills in the distance. It also has exclusive use of a ping pong table which is situated in a covered area by the side of the patio and BBQ. Around the front of the house (this is alongside the canal) you can stroll along the tow-path of the Canal du Midi and watch the boats navigate their way through the lock. The gîtes are in the grounds of very friendly British owners who will respect your privacy.

Upstairs, Olive Tree offers a double and a twin bedroom. Towels and bedding provided. There is a rain head shower, washbasin + hair-dryer. Downstairs there is everything you need for a relaxing holiday away from home. Open plan area downstairs includes a sitting room area with sofa, armchair,TV/ DVD/VHS & discs, Radio/ CD player. Dining table & chairs with a kitchen offering all facilities. A full-sized oven / grill with induction hob and a large fridge/freezer. All crockery, cutlery and tea towels are provided as well as a microwave/ dishwasher/toaster/Coffee filter/washing machine.


Our property is right alongside the Canal du Midi and great for walking or just sitting and watching the boats go by on the Canal du Midi. Supermarkets and shops are a short drive away but the village has a small shop selling different breads, cakes and a selection of groceries.

You are welcome to bring your bikes if you wish as there are some great routes for all abilities or alternatively bike hire can be obtained from the next village.

Its a perfect place to base yourself to explore the area.

We offer a weekly pizza evening at the property, homemade wood fired pizzas made to order with local wine on offer. Details sent with the welcome pack for the property.

Golf breaks: Carcassonne has, a beautiful 18 hole Par 71 - 5,758 metre golf course playable all year round with views of the Pyrenees and which is only a 20 minute drive away.

The place is clean & very well-equipped. Nice patio space as well. Pool was great. Enjoyed pizza night by the hosts as well. Tons of space outdoors if you’ve got children who need to run off steam. Lots to see in the surrounding area.

Gite was exactly as described and spotlessly clean. Lovely area around the property with Canal Du Midi just a few steps from the house. The Olive Tree overlooks garden so is very peaceful and quiet. Lovely relaxing stay, wish it could have been for longer. Adrian and Ann-Marie are super hosts. The gite was clean and comfortable and well furnished with everything we needed. The outside deck was perfect for meals and relaxing in the afternoons/evenings after visiting local villages. And the pool was warm and a great size - we often had it all to ourselves. Would highly recommend.

Very dog friendly

It’s a really lovely place to stay, excellent hosts and a large garden with a large pool. It was ideal for us as we took our 2 dogs. Being right on the Canal de Midi it was ideally placed for dog walks, cycling etc. The local bar is a10 minute walk away and we used it regularly. There are plenty of restaurants within a short drive. We can highly recommend and will be returning

We had a wonderful stay at Olive Tree and a really great overall experience. The house is ideal for a family of four: very comfortable, cosy and well equipped, with everything you need to cook and feel at home, including all the necessary kitchen utensils. The house was spotless, and despite the very cold weather outside, it was warm and welcoming inside.The garden is absolutely spectacular, a real highlight of the property, and our daughters enjoyed it so much. The ping-pong table was also a fantastic addition and gave us some great family moments. Although we didn’t use the pool as it was winter, it looked very spacious and in excellent condition.Samantha and James are lovely hosts, very kind and easy to communicate with. The surroundings are beautiful, with views over the canal, and the location is excellent, very well connected to Carcassonne.Without a doubt, it was a great choice and a place we would happily return to for a family holiday.

Great for couples

This is our 2nd stay and our new hosts Sam and James were great. We had our two dogs with us and they were made very welcome. The pool is wonderful especially on a really hot day. James held a pizza ngt for both Gites and they were excellent especially with the carafe of wine that you could order with itThe only negative is that at this time there is no air conditioning but James assures me this will be done next yearThe Canal De Midi is right outside the front of the house and is great for walking, biking and boating. Marseillette is a small town with one bar, so a car is definitely needed to get about Can highly recommend staying with Sam and James

Good for cycling!

Great location by the Canal du Midi, which has a cycle route alongside. We cycled in both directions, and another day took the bikes by car to cycle further away. Also good access to Carcassonne and supermarkets by car. Comfortable gite, looks just like the photos. Enough kitchen equipment and a three-ring induction hob for eating in. Good-sized fridge and freezer. Despite being quite windy during our stay we still managed to use the table tennis table and the pool. Quiet and relaxing place to stay.

Olive Tree

Lovely setting in an idyllic village beside the canal. Carcassonne and the beaches near Narbonne, are easily accessible on excellent roads. The village is quite tranquil, with a little shop open part of the day and a busy cafe serving good food throughout. There is a wide choice of supermarkets with the nearest just a few miles away and more than adequate. The house is tastefully furnished and has everything you could possibly require. The grounds are wide, well tended and ideal for relaxing in with plenty of high standard garden furniture. The pool is immaculate.

Tranquil spot for new parents and baby

We have a 4 month old daughter and spent a week at olive cottage in late September. The location is ideal if you have a baby as its near the airport but still quiet and peaceful. We really liked being next to the canal as you can go straight out for walks on the towpaths with the buggy and little one loved the watching the ducks being fed and adults enjoyed watching the boats navigate the canal. The cottage is well equipped and Pauline and Ken provided a travel cot for baby along with plenty of advice on the local area. We had a lovely week and would definitely go back again - late autumn was just right temperature wise as well, enough sun for us but not too hot for baby. Mark, Fran and Isabel.

Lovely little cottage in a great setting

Olive Tree Cottage lives up to its description. It is clean and well cared-for with everything you need for a short break. The swimming pool was fabulous and we enjoyed swimming even in mid-October. The outdoor table tennis was great fun. Anne Marie and Adrian are good, discreet hosts. The setting on the canal du midi is lovely and there are nice views from the garden. We visited Carcassonne and the coast around Perpignan during our stay. The village has an excellent boulangerie but was quiet when we were there outside peak season. There were three adults on our trip and we had all we needed. The shower is brilliant! The cottage is excellent value for money and just as described in the advert.

Lovely stay

We stayed for two weeks at the end of June in Olive Tree. The property was very clean and had all the equipment you need. The outside decking area is a sun trap all day long but if you need shade then the covered area is ideal. The pool and sunbathing area were very clean with plenty of sun loungers. Marseillette is a quiet village with only one bar/restaurant but there is a pizza van, burger van and curry delivery on certain days of the week. The supermarket in Capendu nearby is about a five to ten minute drive away. Other supermarkets are in Trebes which is about fifteen minutes by car. You can drive to Carcassone centre within twenty five minutes and there are even larger supermarkets nearby. Overall, we had a lovely stay and Adrian and Ann-Marie were very good hosts who both suggested places of interest and were available if needed. We would recommend the gite to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay with lovely walks on your doorstep up and down the Canal du Midi.

Superschöner Aufenthalt!

James und Samantha waren perfekte Gastgeber. Das Apartment ist sehr schön und gemütlich und es hat an nichts gefehlt. Der Außenbereich und die Terrasse sind bestens ausgestattet und sehr groß man kann hier sowohl in der Sonne als auch im Schatten verweilen. Die Lage ist als Ausgangspunkt für Unternehmungen oder für eine Fahrt an den Strand ebenfalls sehr gut geeignet. Ich werde dieses Apartment gerne wieder buchen und freue mich meine Gastgeber hoffentlich bald wieder zu sehen. Inzwischen ganz herzliche Grüße und vielen Dank für alles, Alexandra

Superbe gîte au bord du canal du midi

Le gîte d'Anne Marie et Adrian est un endroit juste idéal pour passer des vacances dans cette belle région. Au pied de l'écluse c'est le départ privilégié de ballade à vélo le long du canal. La piscine est super et nous a permis de nous détendre et de nous amuser en famille. Le gîte est parfait pour une famille de 4, propre et tout confort avec une terrasse agréable donnant sur le beau jardin. Je recommande à 100% ce logement.
