The Creek House~Sit back and unwind on the Pine!
Welcome to The Creek House! This one of a kind waterfront and rail-trail front property is perfectly situated between Pine Creek and the Pine Creek Rail Trail. Pine Creek ranks as a top destination for Anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. Rafting, canoeing, and kayaking are some of the best ways to experience the beauty of the gorge! The 65-mile rail trail is ideal for biking, hiking, running and Cross Country Skiing and was ranked a Top 10 Bike Ride by the USA Today.
This custom built 3,400 square foot home features 4 traditional bedrooms, a low-ceiling loft that sleeps four above the recreational garage, and a brand new pull-out queen sofa in the 550 square foot family living room. 2 full baths and 2-1/2 baths make it ideal for up to 3 families. The Master Bedroom features a whirl pool tub and top/bottom day bed with stunning views of Pine Creek! Sitting on the deck and by the fire pit are the perfect spots to watch all that nature has to offer. Book your stay...we know you'll enjoy the Slate Run area as much as we do! Check back for updates!
Location was absolutely perfect, and the house served us well. The fifth bedroom over the garage was not made up and lack of air conditioning made it unusable for us. Intact screens and fans would help make the space usable as a bedroom. We had very high temps during our stay and the second floor of the house remained very stuffy and hot despite AC. Windows and window sills could use a good cleaning.
The location is perfect, borders the rail trail, creek is just off back yard. The house needs updating and was not the cleanest. Some curtains were ripped and clipped together. Windows over the whole house were very dirty. The back deck is very unsafe, needs repaired. All that being said, we will rent again, just wish some of the issues could be addressed.
We chose this house for our family vacation spot and it did not disappoint! The house sits on the most stunning property between the bike/walking path and the creek. We tubed down the creek almost every day, hiked the waterfall which is directly across the creek from the house and walked the path to eat dinner at a local restaurant. We also hiked the Grand Canyon of PA and toured the Penn Caves. It is definitely in a remote area so make sure you get your groceries before you arrive and bring some Deet because you're in the woods. Minor inconveniences for the stunning view and joy of having a water park in your back yard. It was a privilege to be allowed to stay in this beautiful location!
We've stayed at the Creek House two years in a row with large groups of friends for a fall bike trip weekend on the Pine Creek Rail Trail. We love the location and setting of this property and for the number of people you can fit in this place, it's a great deal.
Our one critique is the bathroom situation. If you have 10 plus people, it's difficult sharing the two bath/shower facilities... especially the one by the garage with a window and no curtains.
Only advantage:proximity/access to Pine Creek.
Overall, we were disappointed
*Selected this house over a prior rental for additional bedroom advertised. Room was over garage. No A/C so one of our party had to sleep on the couch.
* Not notified until checkin that we had to wash/dry towels/linens-owner did not respond when I questioned this not being part of the high cleaning fee. Began washing at 6am, dryer was not working well, & at 10am checkout time we were STILL not done.
*Despite a cleaning fee-this house was not clean on arrival. Dead bugs on most of the window sills/some furniture, dusting/cleaning was superficial at best. Plastic shower liners in both bathrooms had mold/mildew. Vanity top in master BR dirty/ring around the tub.
*Garage bathroom should not be counted as one of the bathrooms in my opinion. I found it grungy.
*Informed am of checkin one stove burner didn't work. Only 3 of 5 working-all small ones-making it difficult to prepare meals.
*Not enough kitchenware to adequately prepare meals. No frying pan, 2 small pots. Member of our party drove an hour home to get pans/kitchen utensils. Flatware not great.
*Grill did not work well/burned unevenly.
*Not maintained. Furniture stained/dining chairs wobbly- noted in other reviews/obviously not repaired. Toilet seat broken. Toilet roll hanger missing in one bathroom. Deck mossy/in bad shape-crooked paving stones laid out as step off deck unsafe. Big drop out of garage door-appears step had broken off.
You can walk right into the creek or hop on a bike on the trail. There is a great variety of wild life in the area and a comfortable size house for the extended family.
Owner is not very responsive and does not provide check in instructions until âafter 10am on arrival day, after last guest have leftâ His words not mine. VRBO requires this into 72 hrs prior to arrival.
Upon arrival, every single bed had to be made. There are not mattress pads, beds just have a fitted sheet with an old comforter. There is only 1 shower in the main house downstairs and no shower in the master, only a tub. There is a shower in the garage but was crawling with bugs and spiders and even after we cleaned it, no one wanted to use it. The pull out bed in the living room that is supposed to be ânewâ is old and broken. The WiFI is slow as anything and is not high speed by any stretch of the imagination. It takes a few minutes for emails to download and sync. They charge a high cleaning fee but require you to wash and put away all of your towels and sheets and take all of your trash 10 min away (the opposite of leaving the valley) upon departure. Canât for the life of me figure out what the fee is for! There is no ice maker, no salt and pepper and basic items. Owner was up front about that and said he had no idea what the other guests had left behind. In the garage where there are 4 beds for kids really, there is no fan and no AC, so it is hot as h#$#! Are kids opted to sleep on the couch in the main house. Also the screens have big holes that bugs like to come in from. Also the thermostat is under lock and key, so what ever it is set at, that is it
The house is situated on Pine Creek with the rail trail on the other side. Nice quiet spot. The house and garage were lacking a bit in cleanliness and can use some updating. Garage/game room was pretty dirty. We swept the floor and outside deck. That being said, we would probably consider renting again.
The house is beautiful. But we found it to be very subpar in terms of cleanliness! To us it seemed as though no one had been there for some time. It was definitely not rent ready. Animal droppings and dust and dirt and bug debris at every turn. Things were not working properly and some spots actually dangerous. This place could be absolutely gorgeous with some tlc.
Property was amazing. Owners were easy to reach and extremely helpful. We saw the eagle on Saturday and enjoyed fishing. No trout but a few small mouth bass were caught. We are looking forward to satying here again in the future!
Located along the rail trail and Pine Creek makes this house a prime location. House is beautiful and well stocked. Our family had a fabulous time.
That being said, we feel the previous guest did not clean up properly. Grills were left uncovered, marshmallow sticks left laying on the deck, beds and blankets in loft left in a pile (which we did not use). Not the owners fault, but felt cleaning crew could have straightened everything up, maybe my OCD.
Everything else was wonderful and would definitely stay here again. Fabulous house, location and tons of fun! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!!
Beautiful setting with mountains all around. Fishing and tubing in Pine Creek right in your backyard. Pine Creek bike trail right out the door and an easy ride to Wolfe General store and the Wolfe Restaurant and Inn. Everyone was so friendly too! Perfect place for our family vacation!
This property was fantastic! 2nd time we have stayed there. Tony was very responsive and made sure to answer all our questions in a time manor for our stay.
A beautiful setting, and well equipped. Comfortable beds and couches; kitchen has very nice dishes and plenty of pots and pans; open floor plan with windows looking out to the creek makes an enjoyable space. That said, this rental requires special care in wintertime. Ice-covered entrance hill and weak internet signal trapped us without access to AAA or other assistance. For winter rentals, road must be maintained and a landline is essential. Local maintenance also was spotty: water was turned off, beds were not made up, ladybugs everywhere, heater in garage/playroom was not connected to propane tank; one broken kitchen stool and wobbly dining table chairs; no instructions for house access, use of fireplace, garbage collection, etc.; small things, like no dish sponges, tea towels, or garbage bags, and many burnt-out lightbulbs. Overall, we had a great weekend, but management should be improved.
