The Secretariat Room at The Townsman Hotel is designed for travelers who appreciate classic comforts and timeless style. Located on the third floor, this thoughtfully decorated room features antique wood details, leather accents, houndstooth patterns, and warm gold finishes that create a refined Virginia-inspired retreat. The result is a cozy and distinctive space that feels both elegant and welcoming after a day of exploring Charlottesville.

The Secretariat Room is part of The Townsman Hotel, a unique boutique “unhotel” experience located directly above Charlottesville's historic Downtown Mall. Situated between Mudhouse Coffee and Rockfish Brewing Company, The Townsman places you in the center of downtown's vibrant restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment while offering a simple, independent stay with no front desk or traditional check-in process. Guests receive a personal access code before arrival and can simply arrive and settle in with ease.

Explore everything Charlottesville has to offer just beyond your doorstep, from acclaimed restaurants and nightlife to nearby vineyards, hiking trails, historic sites including Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, and the University of Virginia. The Secretariat Room includes Wi-Fi, mini refrigerator, Nespresso coffee maker, hairdryer, and iron with ironing board. Complimentary off-site parking is available within a five-minute walk. Please note that The Townsman is a historic building without an elevator, and all rooms require stair access. Guests should also be mindful that this is a downtown urban location with the energy and character that comes with staying in the heart of Charlottesville.

Parking was a bit a walk from unit, but well worth the convenience of the location. Very close to the shopping on the street and open mall below. We would definitely reserve this unit again.

This sweet boutique hotel was the absolute best stay! It brought the amenities, charm, location, and comfort that we needed for our stay. I’ve already recommended this spot to friends when they visit Charlottesville and hope to return and stay again. We loved the aesthetic, it was easy to get anywhere from the location, it was tidy, quiet, and had everything we needed plus the allure of more privacy and unique furnishings and features. Communications from owner/manager were great as well!

Lovely and convenient

First, the only difference between the listing and the room was the bedframe, but I had to be honest! Gorgeously comfortable bed, though. Everything was lovely, we loved being right in the middle of the mall. Other than the street noise (which was expected and not unreasonable) it was nice and quiet. Check in was smooth and communication was clear. If we are ever back in the area, we would stay here again!
