Our open aired bungalow is located in the jungle above the beach with grand ocean views, cool sea breezes, and access to 2 private beaches. If you choose to explore the big beach located to the South of Los Chonchos and a 15 minute walk, you most likely will have the beach to yourself.

This community and our palapa is a perfect destination for families and for children who are enamored with nature. This natural environment allows for the most curious of children to discover turtles, crabs, butterflies and many more animals and habitats. If you enjoy being active in the outdoors, Los Chonchos does not disappoint. Snorkeling, sea kayaking, world class fishing, and swimming are right out your front door. If you truly want to unwind, the open air environment lends itself to relaxation and taking it slow. Experience Mexico at its most beautiful while renting this palapa.
The palapa is newly refurbished with all amenities that are needed for simple living. There are two bedrooms with space for 4 people to sleep. The furniture is made out of jungle wood and hand crafted by a local artisan. Fresh, newly bought pillows and bedding will provide warmth for night sea breezes. The palapa also contains a kitchen island, bar stools, a hammock, and romantic candle lighting that allows for the most magical of nights.
Los Chonchos, an eco-preserve containing 24 palapas that were built in 2004 The palapa is run by solar powered energy. It contains a gas stove, refrigerator, and running spring water. Fresh drinkable water will be provided when you arrive. This eco-preserve provides a local on site chef who can make 3 meals a day when pre arranged or you can bring your food with you to cook meals in a fully equipped kitchen. Chimo, the nearest fishing village, is a half hour to an hour jungle/oceanside hike allowing for you to buy amenities and fresh fish if needed. Los Chonchos prides itself on providing employment for locals who live in the area. The men who help unload your luggage, haul your luggage to the palapa, and make the prearranged food are exceptionally helpful and essential in making Los Chonchos available to the public.
Location:
After flying in to Puerto Vallarta, a taxi can be taken to Boca de Tomatlan. There are 2 water taxis a day that will take you to the community of Los Chonchos. The water taxi is an hour long boat ride that allows for amazing views of the ocean, Yelapa, oceanside villages and mountainous jungles. If needed, a prearranged taxi can take you straight from the airport to the dock at Boca de Tomatlan.

Amenities:
The palapa contains running water, an indoor and outdoor shower, 2 sinks, fridge, freezer, stove, stainless steel pots and pans, a cooler, and most kitchen amenities including a French press. There is a railing around the deck for anyone traveling with young kids. Mosquito nets are provided and are recommended when sleeping at night.
Please note: the location is located above the sea. It has its benefits by being secluded, no smoke from campfires on the beach and privacy. The walk to the palapa includes a small but steep set of stairs that could be a little challenging. Take your time and don't worry about your luggage. The onsite crew will help you carry your luggage to and from the palapa. There is a railing to assist you up the stairs. It takes only about 5-10 minutes from the beach.
As mentioned earlier, Los Chonchos has no store, only access to prepared meals and beer. If required, more food can be bought in Chimo. Planning and preparation for meals include food shopping before taking the water taxi.

First aid kitThe water taxi is a wet landing. There will be people to help you carry your luggage and food up the stairs to the palapa. The walk to the palapa is a short but a steep climb 5-10 minutes from where the boat lands.
As mentioned earlier, two beaches can be accessed from the palapa-the beach where the taxi lands and another bigger beach 15 minutes by foot South of the village. One of the most magical aspects of this stay is the access to 2 secluded, beautiful beaches. The jungle provides an equally appealing and intriguing environment with plant diversity and a stunning amount of coconuts and palms. Observe mangos, bananas, citrus, and native fruits amidst the palapa community. This is also a botanists heaven with flowing trees, plants, and shrubs year round.

A note: My daughter, ALICIA CHRISTIANS - BYRD, passd away unexpectedly last February from a pulmonary aneurism at 45 years of age. As her Father and Executor of her Estate, I am continuing support of Casa SARAH for the enjoyment of guests, friends, family members and her children Ava & Cade.
Those experienced visitors to Casa SARAH will enjoy recent upgrades of a new Solar System dedicated to electric lighting & refrigeration, a new 6 burner propane stove, and a new water heater. Also activated Internet service in March 2022 as well as Fresh Paint indise & out. These sound like basic amenities but when placed in a remote environment they are considered extravagant improvements. Please enjoy your stay
