TO EVERYONE LOOKING FOR A PLACE OF REFUGE... we offer our "Sanctuary Inn". To avoid any disappointment, please know that we do not allow any gatherings or parties.We are situated on 3.5 acres surrounded by an additional 83 acres of beautiful old oaks and maples. Yet we are only 15 minutes from Detroit and many other great attractions including Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford, the Detroit Zoo, the Iconic Motown Museum, the world famous Detroit Institute of Art and African American Museum. Still within 15 minutes you will find Belle Isle, Little Caesar's Arena, the oldest farmer's market in the country, Eastern Market, to name just a few.

A Slice of Heaven

Where do I start? Everything about this spot and the hosts was amazing. It really is a sanctuary. We loved every minute hanging out in the backyard (understatement calling it a bkyrd), watching the birds and all the animals. Felt like we were in a Disney production. The house had everything! It was incredibly charming, with tons of curated books and art. It's nostalgic in the best of ways. You will not regret staying at this slice of heaven. We can't wait to be back

Everything about our stay was perfect. It's listed as the sanctuary and thats exactly what it is, a hidden gem that makes you feel far from the city. I also can't say enough about the Richard and Jeanne, they really know how to make you feel welcome. Thanks for the great stay! We'll be back!

Great hosts, lovely property

We stayed for 2 weeks in the peaceful surroundings at the Sanctuary Inn. The house is well equipped with everything we needed for cooking, laundry, entertainment and comfort. This was our 3 time staying at the property and we will be back again.

Christmas in Southfield

We rented the Sanctuary to have a welcoming place to be able to spend Christmas with family in Detroit. It was perfect. The hosts loaned us some Christmas decorations and we put up a Christmas tree. The flock of wild turkeys was a bonus. We will stay there again when visiting family in Detroit.

cool mid-century modern ranch in quiet natural setting

We stayed in this pleasant home surrounded by trees and nature. Our hosts were great: friendly and very accommodating, wonderful people. This was our third time staying with them. It's like staying in someone's cool home while they're out. It's not too fussy but comfortable for a family. There's a big dining room table which is great for playing games or making a puzzle. It's nice in the summer, too, and you can enjoy the backyard more then. We saw turkeys, deer, and squirrels. It's cozy during the winder and you can pull up a chair at the gas fireplace to enjoy its warmth. We enjoyed our stay and it's a nice quiet neighborhood. A good find!

A lovely home away from home

This property is ideally located to many sites and activities in the Detroit area. The deer greet you upon arrival and throughout the day and night! Jeanne and Richard were very responsive and provided and extra key seeing we were two couple on different schedules, as well as instructions on how the hot water value works side to side (who knew!) A very pleasant stay.

Property is very quiet as it is off the proverbial beaten path. That said it is convenient for expressway traveling to and from the city. The house is older but comfortable. Beds were good. TV is a big screen and easy to use. No dishwasher was a surprise

Lovely place and lovely people

It is just a fantastic location. It is so surrounded by trees with a big lot of its own and there are woods all around it. You wouldn’t think of it when you are driving there
but then you are in your own little sanctuary. The place itself is also wonderful. Spacious and well stocked. Lovely rooms and lovely living room with a fireplace and huge windows looking out to the trees on the back. We ENJOYED a thunderstorm with the fire on and what fun! Hosts are both gracious and available and ready with info and anything you might need. Not intrusive either. Just a nice balance. Many many thanks!!! I knew as we drove up that the place was going to be delightful. And it was. Some really nice books too!

Home away from home

The location was excellent and the home was very nice. They had all the comforts of home and the extra touches was over the top. From extra toiletries to kitchen supplies and even games for the family! Looking forward to another stay when we come back to town.

Peaceful Retreat Close to the City

We had a wonderful stay! The house was super clean with plenty of room. The yard was amazing! Very peaceful large property with plenty of nature to enjoy. We loved watching the birds and deer. We stayed here to experience the NFL Draft in Detroit. The location was perfect and was settled into a quiet neighborhood. Everything we needed was available to make the place a comfortable stay.

Step back in time

This spacious listing presented itself at the perfect time. The hosts were responsive to initial inquiries to include check in. The landscape presented a wonderful backdrop and scenery for this space so close to Detroit. The kitchen and bathroom decor match the furniture and rest of the house furniture. In house laundry made it easy to travel light. A misunderstanding presented itself on check in with kitchen housekeeping. Delayed communication on kitchen upkeep, items found in the refrigerator, and trash instructions upon arrival led to an uncomfortable situation until resolved through text messages with Jeanne and Richard. We were grateful for the hospitality and beauty of this home. Its location allowed our family to handle our affairs in the short amount of time allowed in comfortable settings.

Perfect getaway!

We loved our time here at Sanctuary. What a lovely little get away just minutes away from major highways. Incredibly well stocked (the coffee grinder was appreciated), and the fireplace was so warm and cozy. We especially appreciated help with getting the pilot light re-started when we accidentally switched it off. We spent most of our time reading (what a fun selection in the bedroom), snuggling in front of the fire, and cooking together. They were super helpful when we forgot a jacket as well. Great hosts and a cozy space to share.
