Poor perfunctory service

We found our whole stay very disappointing. The staff were unfriendly and unwelcoming, the service we received was very perfunctory with the exception of the maintenance gentleman who had to attend as our TV was not working. He was kind, friendly and efficient, he fixed the problem with the TV, helped with turning off the heated towel rail and sort out the air conditioning. When we entered our room we were faced with a workman outside our window on a noisy machine . We received no prior warning or apology, in fact when we complained, Lily on the reception desk just said there was nothing to be done and we would have to put up with it until they had finished for the day. This is just one example of the uncaring and perfunctory service we received at this hotel. We would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

BW Dover - Buyer Beware

This hotel was formerly several row homes that have been converted to a hotel; lots of twists, turns, doors & unlevel flooring to navigate to get to your room. Beds in the room are rock hard - would have probably been more comfortable sleeping on the floor. AC was barely functioning; Beware of electrical issues; travel fan was fried when plugged into wall outlets. Toilet in bathroom is a very tight fit. Being larger than a size 2 it would have been easy to get stuck on the very tight fit toilet between the shower wall and the sink. Elevators are very small and will only hold 2 people plus luggage. The breakfast buffet is adequate. Very small lobby area. Taxi service is horrible. Had to walk from Hotel to cruise port with our luggage, after waiting 45 minutes for a reserved taxi that never came!

We asked to be sat for dinner and didn’t know we needed a reservation. She sat us only to say that we had to be out in 45 minutes. Not a problem as we wanted to eat and go to bed. 20 minutes passed and she never came to take our order. Another server took our order and said she was on break. The restaurant was empty except for two other tables the entire time we were there. Very uncomfortable.

Hotel was fine, but expected more for the price paid. Hotel could use a makeover. One small elevator for entire hotel. Had to wait 20 minutes in order to go down for check out. The hotel should have a shuttle bus to the cruise port as we had ordered a taxi the previous night and had to wait for 1 hour as there were so many people waiting for a taxi.Our dinner at the restaurant was delicious and the staff was excellent

The room was great. Huge balcony overlooking the English Channel. Even the bathroom had a balcony. Good size modern bathroom with plenty of mirror space and nice shower. Check in desk staff was great. Bar staff friendly. Dinner (steaks and my son had a burger) at restaurant was very good. Taxis are a big problem. Sat for an hour 3 times waiting for a taxi. Almost couldn’t get one to the train station when it was time to leave. No Ubers or bus. No other options I was told by the desk clerk with no empathy. Different desk clerk than when we checked in. Fortunately I called the taxi driver we had already used and he made it a priority to get us to the train on time to catch our flight. Other than that I was very pleased with the hotel. Dover just needs Uber or more taxis. Call for a taxi LONG before you need one and expect to wait. Thank God we headed to the train station early that day. They had told us no cruise ships in port so it wouldn’t be a problem getting a taxi. That turned out to be wrong. It was raining lightly and I was told they were all doing school runs.
