Adventure abounds in Durango! At 7,600 feet elevation, the Bear Den is conveniently located between downtown Durango and Purgatory Ski Resort.

No matter the season, the outdoor recreation opportunities are endless. Located in the four-corner area of southwestern Colorado, at the foot of the San Juan Mountains, Tamarron is a quick drive away from the Purgatory Ski Resort and the historic city of Durango. Also nearby, you can enjoy visiting Rapp Corral, Purgatory Resort, the Rockwood Train Station for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Haviland Lake, Honeyville, Durango Hot Springs, Dalton Ranch Golf Course, and numerous hiking & biking trails.

When you're ready to relax, the cozy interior of The Bear Den welcomes you in with open arms. Settle down amongst the comfortable seating in the living room and catch up on your favorite TV show or movie. This space can also be used as additional sleeping quarters when needed.

The rustic-style kitchen boasts ample meal prep space, updated steel appliances, and a coffee bar. Dining will come naturally at the glass dining table, large enough for the whole family.

The condo's primary bedroom has a plush bed, a private TV, and a large work desk. A private washer/dryer and central air-conditioning round out The Bear Den's marvelous perks. This condo has all of the comforts of home, suitable for a short-term rental, or an extended stay.

Please note there are 33 steps to access the unit, and there is no elevator service.

Ski shuttle details: In the winter months, a bus to the slopes regularly stops at the Tamarron Lodge to transport guests to Purgatory for a day of skiing, see the desk for more information.



Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. The Damage Waiver fee eliminates the need for a traditional security deposit.

Nice condo, but unresolved issues impacted our stay!We really wanted to give this condo five stars because it worked very well for our family of five (2 adults, 3 young children). The layout was great, it was clean, and we appreciated the thoughtful touches, helpful home tips, and well-stocked kitchen and bathroom amenities. The property was quiet, and we enjoyed the indoor pool, outdoor pool, and hot tub (though they were a bit crowded).Unfortunately, our stay was significantly impacted by a major issue: upon arrival, a smoke detector was chirping every minute. It was located at the top of a very high vaulted ceiling and not reachable. We contacted Vacasa customer service right away and were told it would be fixed, but during our entire two-night stay it never was. The constant noise meant we barely slept.Additional minor issues included a non-working bidet, old food debris falling out of the sofa sleeper, spiderwebs under the Murphy bed, and shower amenity pumps that didn’t work well. Clearer instructions for amenities would also have helped—we didn’t know the pool hours and were almost denied entry.Overall, the condo itself is very nice, but maintenance and follow-through issues made this stay disappointing.

Quirky But Comfortable Condo

The condo was quirky as the kitchen layout and bedroom door were unusual. More on that later. The good: plenty of room in the living room and bedroom, bed was fairly comfortable, bedet attachment on toilet, no noise from neighboring condos, and tvs and appliances worked okay. The bad: while both sinks had very hot water, the shower only provided lukewarm water even when the dial was turned all the way to hot, kichen utensils, pots and pans were not organized and were difficult to find, basically, inadequate kitchen storage space, heat was noisy, bedroom door was flimsy and noisy (metal slider), and middle shade in living room was inoperable due to broken cord. Most of the bad items were relatively minor, so we would give the condo a "4" rating overall which amounts to a qualified endorsement.
