Welcome to the 5 Starr Cottage, completed in 2015 and nestled in a pristine setting. Situated on Crystal Lake, 400 acres of one of the cleanest lake in NH, awaits just steps away, offering endless watersports opportunities. With waterfront views from every room, this state-of-the-art home boasts a perfect retreat for fishing enthusiasts, providing rods and access to freshwater trout, bass, and more. Explore the lake with our two kayaks, canoe, and paddleboards, or enjoy some friendly competition at the horseshoe pitch. The fully stocked kitchen and outdoor gas grill cater to culinary desires, while the master bedroom with a queen bed and ensuite bathroom ensures comfort and luxury. Two additional rooms feature double beds with a nearby full bathroom, complemented by a sleeping loft and powder room. Unwind on warmer nights in the hanging bed in the screened porch, or rinse off in the outdoor shower after a full day of hike on the mountains near by. The expansive dock area, complete with sand-bottom and a sprawling umbrella, offers a sanctuary from the sun, with shallow waters near shore for children to play safely. Radiant heating and a wood stove provide cozy warmth during cooler evenings. A rolling/portable AC unit is easily accessible for the warmer days. Conveniently located less than 30 minutes from Mount Sunapee and Hanover, and just 20 minutes from Mount Cardigan, adventure awaits in every direction. 5 Starr was a spectacular home. Brigitte sets you up for success from check-in to departure with detailed instructions. She was also extremely responsive. The home was breathtaking. The lake was beautiful. The house was equipped with everything you need. It's very comfortable and zen. We spent our time enjoying the magnificent views and reading. It's quiet, clean, and decorated beautifully. You feel like you're at home immediately. I highly recommend and will be back.

Magical Escape

My family of four traveled for a quick fall foliage tour mid October. We used this house as our base instead of staying at multiple places. This meant we drove a little more each day but we got to wake up and come home to this magical place. Seriously. We wanted to come home early each day to spend more time here. It’s quiet, enchanting, spotless, and filled with charm. I cannot stress how beautiful and peaceful it is being directly on the lake. We will definitely be back.

When the opportunity to have an impromptu family reunion fell into place just weeks before the 4th of July, I told my partner that I wanted to find a lake house to recreate memories of childhood summers in Northern Wisconsin on Lake Minerva with father and my brother. What I wanted was a place to unwind, to reconnect with nature, to rediscover simple pleasures, like sitting on the dock, or on a screened-in-porch. A place to talk, read and play old games at night. In 5 Starr we found all of that and much more. The house is beautifully put together, with ample common space tastefully decorated with just enough "splash of lake" and 3 cozy bedrooms each with a view of the water. The loft sleeping area is a great add, perfect for kids. The kitchen is well appointed, with all the basics and more. We did just fine on the grill alone. Crystal Lake is glorious. We swam, kayaked, canoed, fished, swam, and sat for hours on the dock. Watching the neighbors blast off fireworks all around the lake was a special treat, but not nearly as spectacular of the nightly sunsets and the playful light sparkles on Crystal Lake's rippled water. Our host was exceptional. Timely, accurate and detailed texts helped make the whole process smooth and stress-free. When we encountered a minor problem with the grill, we had an immediate reply and helpful suggestion that got us cooking again in minutes. For anyone looking to retreat to the woods by the lake, I highly recommend 5 Starr!

This isn't a cabin on a lake, it is a multimillion dollar property with high end appointments. High tech radiant floor heating, expensive woodwork/doors/windows ect. The setting is perfect, private peaceful lake. Great property.

Almost Perfect but HOT

We really enjoyed our stay at this gorgeous house. The location was extremely peaceful and private. House is tastefully decorated and well outfitted with most everything needed- even fishing rods and life vests for the kids. The lake was very clean and serene
. Just wonderful. This lake does allow motors so be aware that jet skis and other loud water sports will likely be present. The only thing worth mentioning is that the house does NOT have air conditioning. I was disappointed in that as we stayed in July and it was unbearably hot. Too hot to be inside at all during the day past 9am, at least on the main level. The downstairs level remained slightly cooler, thankfully, but not by much. Sleep was more difficult due to extreme house temperature. Had I known there was no climate control for air, I would not have booked. It’s just something that at this price point and with a fairly new build, I assumed would be standard. The owner suggested keeping all windows open during the evenings to let the cool air in, yet most of the windows did not have screens. Overall, we had a relaxing time. Would suggest the owner stipulate in listing description that there is no air conditioning.

Perfect Lake Cottage

Pinched myself as I drove down the driveway and saw this beautiful home perched on the hill overlooking the lake. Everything about the stay was perfect. The house was stocked with everything we could possibly need and the views of the lake were beautiful from every room. It would hard to have a favorite spot but I might vote for the screened porch at sunset! We will definitely return to 5 Starr - and possibly move in for good!

When you walk in the door, it’s obvious that the owners understand design and materials. The house is right on the lake and it’s easy to imagine fun family gatherings in the warmer months. Wonderful Winter Retreat!

Our family stayed at 5 Starr Cottage between Christmas and New Years and we had a wonderful winter retreat! From a horse drawn sleigh ride in Woodstock, to Cross Country Skiing in Eastman, to an amazing waterfall hike in the snow right in the neighborhood, we had an amazing trip! Thanks to Brigitte for being so welcoming and providing great recommendations for dining and activities. The house was perfect for our needs, well equipped, comfortable, and with amazing views of the frozen, snow covered lake. We were looking for a winter paradise and we found it at 5 Starr Cottage!

Heaven on a lake

5⭐Is an incredible property. The cottage far exceeded our expectations even with such incredible pictures. Very clean, well designed and everything you could need or want was available. Excellent, well appointed home in quiet, beautiful location

This home is just beautiful and lives up to the photos... and surpasses. If you are a foodie, the kitchen provides everything you could possibly need including appliances, tools, cups, glasses, cocktail glasses, wine glasses and more. I enjoyed cooking meals and enjoying the quiet winter evening by the wood stove. The owners couldn’t have been more accommodating and attentive over text message. All of the bedrooms are on the lower floor with the master bedroom in the middle. This would be a great location to stay with kids or a few families as well. It’s plenty private which I something I always look for and about 20 minutes to the nearby town with many shops, groceries, and more. This is a unique listing that feels like a home but is prepared for VRBO guests no problem. Thanks again!

While the house and setting are lovely, Brigitte charged us unreasonably for ostensibly leaving the property not to her liking. We have rented numerous times on VRBO and never have we been charged for the way we left the house. We will not be returning.

Perfection.

This home is perfect. We are frequent vacation home renters, and 5 Starr Cabin is the nicest home in which we have ever stayed. The finishes are beautiful, the setting is incredible, and the available amenities will far surpass the expectations of any typical renter. We were especially impressed by the cleanliness of the home, the comfortable beds with cozy bedding, and a beyond fully-stocked kitchen with everything we needed to cook and bake whatever we wanted. We stayed with our children who not only loved the house, but also its close proximity to Hanover restaurants, Mt. Cardigan for a challenging family hike, Plainfield to visit the Pumpkin People, and Quechee to visit the raptor rescue center. Had we been there during the summer or winter, we could have added swims in the lake and skiing to the list of awesome nearby activities. The only thing I would point out, and this is not a criticism, is that while this house is totally suitable for children, it is a little complicated for rogue toddlers. There is a loft bedroom with a ladder and a staircase leading down to the bedrooms, both from the living room, that are difficult to block off. If it will stress you out to not have 100% baby-proofing, then this is probably not the house for you.
