is the property beautiful? yes. Is the staff accommodating enough to warrant the price of a stay? Absolutely not. Will staff be there to welcome you upon arrival and perhaps help get your luggage thru the door? Nope. Will they watch from behind the counter as you struggle? Yep. Will the very nice bartender recommend you a restaurant only for you have the front desk tell you no they can't help make you a reservation because they know that restaurant is all booked? Yes. Will you then call that same restaurant yourself and secure a reservation no problem? Again, yes. Can you find better service elsewhere at a fraction of the cost? Almost certainly yes. But hey I'm sure your Instagram pics will be cool.

Great Room but Some Disappointments

Overall, the room was good – spacious, with a fantastic shower, ample closet space, and complimentary soft drinks. Breakfast was also perfect. However, there were some downsides. Our room faced the internal courtyard, which served as a smoking area with music playing all day, sometimes late into the night. Whenever we opened the door for fresh air, cigarette smoke and noise filled the room. Even with the door closed, the noise was noticeable, making it difficult to rest during the day. Additionally, the pillows were uncomfortable and caused back pain. Another disappointment was that housekeeping didn’t replenish the toiletries we used, leaving us without conditioner when we needed it most – just before heading to the airport.

La Gemma is still a Jewel of a Hotel in Florence

Once again we stayed at La Gemma, a wonderful boutique hotel in Florence (Firenze), with all you need in life from a hotel— comfort, location, beauty in decoration, superb breakfasts, and a nice bar. This time, we want to single out Marinella among the staff—she was the maestro at the breakfast, directing us and others at our tables, taking our orders with a smile (never the same, my wife and I) and more. But all the team is great—from the bosses to the cleaning people and the restaurant staff. Thank you Marinella, and thank you La Gemma!!
