Lois Lane Streamside Cottage with Ol' Time Swimming Hole
Enjoy the mid-century modern cottage with 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom accommodations. This newly updated home sits on 6 stream side side acres on Stony Creek just minutes away from the Flight 93 Memorial. With a large upstairs dining/gaming area and downstairs living room with fireplace there are plenty of indoor congregating space. The wrap around deck will give you plenty of entertaining space while you listen to the sound of rushing water. Be sure to enjoy the ol' time swimming hole that's spring fed in the heat of the summer!
THIS PROPERTY IS LOCATED AT APPROXIMATELY 2000 FEET ELEVATION. YEAR ROUND WE RECOMMEND 4WD/AWD VEHICLES. IN THE WINTER, WE DO PLOW; HOWEVER, GUESTS SHOULD ABSOLUTELY HAVE A 4WD/AWD VEHICLE TO STAY HERE FROM NOVEMBER 1-MARCH 31!
This was our second year staying at Lois Lane for Thanksgiving and it was perfect again! We absolutely love the property. Our relatives live in the surrounding area and this home allows to visit with them and have a quiet space to stay to recharge. Our dogs love it too!
Best part was getting up in the morning sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee and listening to the creek down below very quiet very nice. We overpacked everything was there down to the Salt and Pepper great kitchen.
Our main attraction was Flight of 93 it was more than expected . Definitely a must see. Also visited the National Memorial of Johnstown Flood 1889 this was very interesting too. All was easy to drive to. Ate at Shortyâs 30 restaurant and bar ⊠this place was absolutely amazing. Donât let the outside detour you!!! Thank you so much. Your house was absolutely beautiful and very accommodating. Spent a lot of time on the back deck, enjoying the wildlife and scenery. Also played aggravation boys against girls and girls ruled . Thank you again. Christi, David, Kevin and Malinda from Ohio.!We give the property manager five stars. Our weekend was uneventful and there was no need to call. The phone number was left very visible on the front of the refrigerator in case we needed it.
Clean, peaceful property. We liked that it was secluded near the creek. It might be my fault but I didnât realize it did not have central air, only window units in the bedrooms.
Stayed here for our annual golf trip with friends. Great location near courses and small town with an amazing general store. Property was very nice. Secluded and quiet.
When my family and I approached the property, we were excited with the view of the creek. The house is vintage with some quaint vintage wallpaper in several rooms. The only tv in the basement was great as was the wifi. When we opened the front door, we were immediately hit with the smell of natural gas which we figured out was from the gas fireplace in the basement. My husband was able to figure out how to reduce the smell and we aired out the house. Many furnishings in the home need to be updated. For example, most of the pots and pans are in terrible shape. The dishwasher would randomly turn itself on to "drain" cycle even though we never used it. The sofa in the basement had a depression so large in the center we had to use a pillow and a throw blanket to fill it so we could sit as a family to watch tv. On the housekeeping side of things, there were cobwebs and other debris in most of the corners of the first floor. While it may just be my preference, the beds not being dressed with sheets (and one bed's blanket and pillows in a messy pile on a chair) somewhat set me sour. There was also someone else's hair still in the first floor tub and sink. The house is vintage but the vintage doorknobs with no extra lock on the exterior doors made us a bit worried at night.
We rented this property for a short stay while attending a family gathering in the area. The property was very comfortable and well-equipped. We used the outdoor grill for some meals, beds were comfortable, and outdoor deck by the creek was very peaceful. We would definitely rent again if in the area.
The house is cozy, comfortable, charming and peaceful. Pond and stream on the property, no neighbors and plenty of room to relax indoors as well as outdoors. The wrap around deck is great for sitting out in the sun or enjoying meals listening to the stream. Shanksville is just around the bend, hiking trails, lakes and parks within 20 minutes or less, Flight 93 Memorial is 10 minutes away. The house is charming and had everything I needed. We will definitely rent this again closer to Fall. Thanks for a wonderful and relaxing getaway.
The property was beautiful view of a pond and creek, good yard for our dogs to run and play. Exceptionally quiet and peaceful if your looking to get away from loud noise. My wife and I both agree the best shower have ever taken at any place I have stayed before. Very nice accomodations and views, will stay again if up there again.
The house has all of the amenities of home. Our college age children enjoyed trying out all of the âold schoolâ games they have to offer. I enjoyed doing one of the jigsaw puzzles and just hanging out while my family went skiing. Weâd definitely stay here again if weâre in the area.
This was a perfect spot for us. We visited The Flight 93 Memorial and there are 13 covered bridges within 45 minutes of Shanksville, a very quiet town. The quaint general store is the center of activity.
Michigan Family getaway to meet my son that is stationed in Virginia. It was a halfway point for both of us. It will now be our go to spot!!
Peaceful pond. Fire pit by the river. MANY, MANY games for us to use on the farm family sized table.
My only regret is not being able to stay longer.
7 minutes from the United 93 Memorial.
The house was very comfortable and quiet during our weekend there. The property is unique and beautiful, we were pleasantly surprised at how close the house is to the creek. We hope to visit again in a warmer season, to better enjoy the outdoor areas. (It was very cold during our time in the area. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is a must during winter, as mentioned in the property description.)
This sweet cabin was exactly as advertised. It's old in a completely charming way. It's minimalist (very lightly stocked kitchen) but warm. It was really nice to have a place that welcomed our dogs and the property is beautiful.
We had a hiccup with communicating with the host - my email was down - and the host was beyond patient with us.
