Welcome to “The Stag,” a beautiful one-level cabin tucked into the peaceful Flat Mountain neighborhood of Highlands, North Carolina. Surrounded by towering hemlocks, pines, rhododendrons, and oaks, this elegant mountain retreat is just four miles from the charm of Main Street, offering the perfect combination of tranquility and convenience.

“The Stag” features a spacious covered porch with a 50-inch outdoor TV, beautifully landscaped grounds, and a cozy fire pit set among native mountain flora. Whether you’re sipping morning coffee, gathering under the stars, or unwinding with a good book, the outdoor living spaces invite you to relax and breathe in the fresh mountain air.

Inside, the home is thoughtfully appointed with designer furnishings, luxurious bedding, and upscale finishes that create a warm yet sophisticated ambiance. The open layout includes a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances, a comfortable dining area, and inviting living spaces perfect for entertaining or simply enjoying a quiet evening in.

This stepless ranch-style home is easy to navigate and includes parking for three to four vehicles. High-speed Wi-Fi, central heating and air, and smart TVs are all included to keep you comfortable and connected. “The Stag” accommodates up to six guests with three beautifully designed bedrooms and two full bathrooms.

Located just minutes from the heart of Highlands, the cabin is ideally positioned for exploring all the area has to offer. Step outside to the Ranger Falls Trailhead, located less then a quarter mile from the property, or take a short drive to Highlands’ renowned shops, restaurants, and galleries. For guests attending events, the property is just half a mile from Flat Mountain Farm wedding venue and one mile from the Oak Steakhouse at Skyline Lodge.

Whether you're planning a romantic escape or a relaxed family getaway, “The Stag” offers a refined mountain experience that blends style, comfort, and nature. Pets are welcome—up to two well-behaved and potty trained dogs are allowed, though we do not permit cats or puppies. Please remember to select the pet option when booking. Smoking is not permitted inside the home.

Our stay at The Stag was wonderful! Chris and Joy have made a beautiful retreat, and I don't think they missed a single detail! Beautifully decorated, clean, cozy, and if you forgot something from home- they probably have it! Super comfy bed, and luxury linens will give you the best nights sleep at the end of the day. An Absolute Gem in The Highlands!What a truly outstanding property! We are long time VRBO patrons and this property ranks as one of the top properties we’ve ever stayed in. From the serene convenient location to town to the incredible attention to decorating details, this property has it all. The home was extremely clean and very, very well appointed both from a design and a guest convenience perspective. Everything was thought of for a pleasurable stay including an extensive coffee bar offering a selection of plain and flavored coffees, comfortable beds with beautiful soft linens and a well stocked kitchen with everything you may need to feel completely and comfortably at home.The lovely pictures in the VRBO website do not do adequate justice in conveying just how beautiful this property is. We would absolutely stay here again and hope to do so very soon.

I went to my favorite mountain town with my family to celebrate a BIG birthday and ended up staying in my new favorite rental. The Stag is even better than it appears in photos, and Chris is a gracious and responsive host. The house has everything you could need and then some. We didn't look for a single thing we needed that we didn't find. Olive oil? Check. Old Bay seasoning. Check. Coffee. Check. And GOOD coffee, too. There's an entire drawer of Keurig pods. And creamer, too! Each bedroom had a mini-flashlight by the bed. Not that we needed them since the night lights are MOTION-ACTIVATED. I didn't even know those existed. We loved The Stag and are eager to return. My mom wanted to writer her own glowing review, but I told her we could submit only one. So, she submitted it to me and asked me to post it: A delightful stay in this exceptional home! The only complaint I have is that it was too hard to say “goodbye,’ close and lock the door for the last time. Owners have thought of everything! We’ve stayed in many a vacation rental over the years but never one where so many unexpected items were furnished. Beds and bedding are luxurious. Cozy and inviting living area, porch and outdoor spaces. Helpful host and prompt attention to a minor issue which was quickly resolved. Highlands is one of our favorite spots and now we have a new favorite home-away-from home there!

Wonderful Highland's Cabin

Check in was a breeze. House was extremely tidy. Kitchen well stocked, which was a bonus for cooking at the house. Cozy comfortable bedrooms, updated bathrooms. Spent one rainy day at the cabin playing games, reading books, and watching a movie by the fire. About 5-7 minutes to downtown Highlands. Easy to pop into town for shopping, lunch, and dinners.We had one question and texted owners; they were quick to reply.I recommend this property and plan to stay again!

Beautiful Home!

We stayed at The Stag just before Christmas and absolutely loved it! The house was beautiful with every detail thought through, from the decor to the amenities. They even had it beautifully decorated for Christmas! The beds were comfortable with cozy linens & blankets, the kitchen was well stocked, the location was perfect, and the owners were responsive to communication. Thank you for a great stay!

We had an amazing experience staying at the Stag. The house is so beautifully decorated inside with attention to every detail. We were allowed to check in early which further enhanced our stay. Spectacular cabin and appointments

Beautiful cabin with 5 star appointments throughout. The artwork is beyond expectations and all the interior decor is gorgeous. The outdoor seating areas are perfect- so relaxing. Love being .2 mile walk to hiking trails. Thank you for allowing dogs, they loved it as well!

The BEST VRBO I have stayed in. Everything was clean, beautiful and newly updated with no detail overlooked. LOVED the outdoor porch with TV and the firepit. So private and peaceful. It’s close to Main Street and we walked to Ranger Falls . There was nothing that the home did not have. The home is well laid out, with privacy for each bedroom. We loved lounging on the big sofa in the family room by the cozy fireplace. The attention to detail was fantastic.The bedding is amazing and comfortable! A clean and quiet, well maintained home in a peaceful and friendly neighborhood. I will stay here again as we love Highlands. Thanks Chris!
