Oceanfront in Hilo Hale Kai Suites - Moana Room - King Bed, Private Bathroom

Hale Kai Hawaii Suites offers four oceanfront rooms (booked individually) and a spectacular, panoramic view of the blue Pacific Ocean and Hilo Bay. We overlook the popular Honolii surfing beach in a peaceful location just 2 miles north of historic Hilo Town. Revel in the best views in Hilo while at our pool and oceanfront lanai!

The Moana Room is a large room with king bed, small table with chairs, desk, WiFi, SMART TV, private bathroom with shower, small fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, hot water pot, toaster, dishes and utensils, ceiling and portable fan, no air conditioning and sliding door to lanai. Continental breakfast items are stocked daily and we invite all guests to swim in the pool or lounge on our oceanfront lanai.

A few NOTES: One parking spot is provided per room in this quiet residential neighborhood. All Guest Rooms are facing the ocean on the lower level of the property and there are over 30 steps down (pictured) to traverse to the rooms. Guests are responsible for carrying their luggage to their rooms. Bookings limited to 2 guests per room (including children). Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am for the comfort of all of our guests, Mahalo!

While at Hale Kai (House on the Ocean) Hawaii, enjoy watching surfers, dolphins, and seasonal humpback whales during their annual migration to the Hawaiian Islands from the north Pacific. This is a great location with a beautiful view, and convenient to town for restaurants and shopping. Our room was clean and inviting. The pool was a welcome feature. In fact, during our stay we canceled something we intended to do in favor of a relaxing afternoon at the pool. It’s also fun to watch all the surfers at the nearby beach from the house. The daily fruit and light breakfast items were a nice touch and greatly appreciated. One note -- the driveway is steep and getting out can be a challenge to negotiate for larger vehicles. We would definitely love to stay here again!

The property was in a beautiful spot on the Hamakua Coast - very close to Hilo and to Angel Farms. The room was clean, the breakfast fruit was fresh and perfect, the bed was very comfortable and everything was very easy. Loved the pool as well - the only thing missing was a jacuzzi!! :) Thanks for a great stay!

Loved staying in this room. View to the ocean was spectacular. They would stock the fridge with fruits and yogurt for breakfast every day. Room has no AC and bathroom gets Hot but no big deal. Bed was super comfortable. There’s quite an amount of stairs to reach the roo.

Perfect holiday retreat

Hale Kai is simple but has all the necessities for a comfortable stay. The views were beautiful from the lanai and the pool with ocean view was an added bonus. It is the perfect location to explore Hilo.

Views for days!

My husband and I love the location of this rental and have stayed here twice. We always enjoy the daily breakfasts with lots of fresh fruit and the relaxing sounds of the waves. The pool was lovely and secluded. Definitely will stay here again.

Great space next to the ocean

We had a nice stay at this space. The only cons were the hot tub didn't work, and our door wouldn't lock from the outside with the key provided, but the space was secluded and we felt very safe despite. We would certainly stay in this beautiful space again. Mahalo!

Beautiful View

The weather in Hilo was very overcast most of the time we were there, which is something that obviously can't be controlled. The amazing part was that the view was still beautiful even with the drizzly weather. There were always surfers to watch from the pool area. We didn't use the pool or hottub. I did do yoga one morning by the pool. There was a beatiful sunrise the last morning we were there. The table and chairs outside our room were under a little overhang, so we could still sit outside and enjoy coffee or breakfast in the morning. Speaking of breakfast, my husband LOVED the muffins that were provided eahch day! I appreciated how environmentally friendly they were with even providing a little composting container for our food waste. There was a refrigerator with a freezer in our room and a larger refrigerator and freezer in the common room if needed. The room was very large, so we had plenty of space. The flowers along the stair walkway from the parking space to the room were lovely. There were whales spouting out in the bay each day. They were pretty far out, but it was still exciting to see! When I had questions, they got back to me right away and were very kind.

Quiet road. A short drive into town. Able to watch surfers at Honoli'i Beach. Saw whales from the lanai. Continental breakfast was filling. The driveway is quite steep. If reserving Moana, you might want to back in.

Great Room, Tricky Parking

I understand that the renovations are nearly done, but they’re still causing complications. When we arrived, the small parking lot was half filled with workers’ trucks, so we had to wait for them to leave. Admittedly, we arrived about half an hour early. We were supposed to have a particular space reserved, but even after the workers left, a truck was still in our space, so we had to park in a different one. We went out for dinner, but when we came back, a sedan was in our space, so we had to choose another. In practice, I guess, it’s first-come, first-served, or take what you can get. Also, the driveway is, as ever (this is our third stay at the property), quite steep, making it a bit of challenge to maneuver your way out, especially if you have to do so in reverse. Still, it’s a beautiful and delightful place, especially if you like to get up in the dark and watch the sun rise. It’s worth some inconvenience and anxiety in the parking lot.

B&B at it's best

This is our first B&B and we were very impressed. Great fresh breakfast provided every morning. Beautiful surroundings and sunrise. Not too far from town and excursions. We highly recommend this place and our wonderful host who was always available when needed.

Quiet, beautiful, home base to explore the Hilo area

My wife and I spent three nights in the Moana Room as we explored the Hilo area and it was perfect for our needs. The room was spacious and clean and boasts an amazing view overlooking Hilo Bay. We made use of the pool and hot tub and loved listening to the crashing waves below while drifting off to sleep.

Beautiful must-stay location

Our stay was even better than I imagined and the reviews didn’t do it justice! Salt-water vacations does a fabulous job. It’s a picturesque spot, beautiful sunrises and amazing views. The breakfasts of fresh fruit, eggs and coffee were made even better by the magnificent sunrises. Our last morning we even saw a pod of dolphins swimming along the shore. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and stargazing in the evening after full days of hiking and driving around the Island. The location is perfect to head quickly into Hilo, or go north along the picturesque coast. We did stay on Island time and go to bed early and get up early (by 7 am) and it seemed like others staying at the same time as us did as well. For our last night we had the place to ourselves. You can hear your neighbour guests, but everyone was respectful and just bring ear plugs or white noise if you’re a light sleeper. Comfy and spacious bed (Moana room). Overall we slept so well (10+ hours a night!). We loved the Big Island and the variety of adventurous things to do. This location will not disappoint. It is stunning, clean, well-stocked and beautifully maintained. Note- parking is tight if all guests are there and not for the faint of heart backing down the mini hill. You probably don’t want to go larger than a sedan.

Oceanfront Getaway

Overall property was great. Wonderful to wake up to the sounds of the ocean right outside your door. My partner and I were disappointed that the pool and hot tub were out of service for repairs. Unaware of that prior to booking, we would have chosen another property with these amenities. Host was very easy to communicate with, and check in information was very easy.
