Summary:
Take a trip back in time at "Wellington Terrace" â a heritage-listed, 3-storey Victorian terrace with stunning views. Nestled in Glebe, just a 10-minute walk or 5-minute drive to Hobart CBD & Salamanca. Enjoy the charm of history with modern comforts, surrounded by Hobartâs sporting precinct, Aquatic Centre, and scenic running tracks. The perfect base for exploring Southern Tasmania!
The Space:
Built in 1885, "Wellington Terrace" lives up to the name with spectacular uninterrupted views of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. The house contains three spacious bedrooms as well as an enormous bathroom, living room, kitchen/dining room, and washroom.
The living room contains a fireplace that is perfect for the cold Tasmanian winters (and summers). Our favourite thing to do is light up the fire and kick back with a nice glass of wine. We also have a 55â Samsung 'The Frame' television, with most streaming services available via the high-speed internet. If 'switching off' is more your style, there are many board games to enjoy.
A fully equipped kitchen/dining room is found adjacent to the living room, with French doors that open onto the balcony. An oven, air-fryer, conduction cooktop, dishwasher, and microwave are all provided. Dine on an 1870s Kauri pine table from the Barossa. Basic pantry essentials as well as coffee and tea are provided. A gas-heater keeps the room warm when needed.
Upstairs youâll find two generously sized bedrooms. Room 1 contains a double-sized bed, built-in wardrobe, and a desk for those inclined to work. Room 2 contains a queen-sized bed as well as views over the city and mountain. Both upstairs rooms have wall-mounted electric heaters. A small washroom/toilet is also found upstairs.
Downstairs features Room 3 with a queen-sized bed, desk, and built-in wardrobe. A large gas-heater is provided. The main bathroom is also located downstairs, complete with mountain view to admire from the bathtub. This area is completed by a large shower, washing machine and dryer.
Finally, a small outdoor cottage garden can be found with a fire-pit for the colder nights. An abundance of herbs, in addition to tomatoes and strawberries (in the right season!), can be found in the gardens.
The space is fitted with many local and overseas antiques that we have acquired from our travels. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
Guest Access:
Guests have full use of the cottage for the duration of their stay.
The Neighborhood:
The neighborhood surrounding the property offers a relaxing atmosphere while still providing the necessities of inner city living.
With the city being a ten-minute walk away, Glebe is a wonderful suburb filled with historical houses that backs onto the Queens Domain, with an abundance of walking paths, bike trails, sporting grounds, and swimming pool only minutes away.
The closest major supermarket is Woolworths Supermarket in Campbell St, only a five minute drive away. Hill Street Grocer is a wonderful Gourmet Grocer and delicatessen which provides the best quality fresh produce and gourmet Tasmanian products.
With Salamanca only being a short walk/drive, we would highly recommend going to the iconic Salamanca Markets on a Saturday morning.
We would also recommend the Farm Gate Market, which runs on a Sunday morning from 8.30am to 1pm. The market is located on Bathurst Street, between Murray and Elizabeth streets.
Getting Around:
You are walking distance to the CBD, 5 to 10 minutes depending on your fitness level. Buses run regularly from Elisabeth mall in the CBD, timetables can be accessed online on the Metro Tas website.
Taxi: If you need a taxi the telephone number is 131 008.
Uber is available in Hobart.
Other Things to Note:
Given stairs are needed to access all areas of this house (including the bedrooms and bathrooms), this house is unfortunately not suitable for those with mobility issues or young children.
There is no off-street parking provided, although there is free all-day parking which is readily accessible on weekends or after-hours, as well as abundant (and free) timed parking. If no all-day parking can be found, the Queenâs Domain offers all-day parking for $5 (distance 100m).
