Seira Sol on 5th Avenue is an updated and modernized home with old bones, loads of character, and a farmhouse feel. From the perfectly round entryway to the grand patio with a built-in infinity pool, the house is a delight in textures, hues and warm energy.
Whether you are a solo traveler or a small group of 8 guests, my home is a unique two-story experience with an open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area, and double vaulted ceilings filled with beams and rafters throughout both floors. The house can be available with one to four bedrooms (depending on the number of overnight guests) and 3 full bathrooms.
Upon entry, you will find a well-suited office behind original French doors and a stunning, hand-carved round desk with matching chairs for small conferences or business meetings.
We affectionately call the sitting room, the Frida Khalo Room as it is filled with joyful-colored chairs and ottomans decorated in the art of the famous Mexican painter. This intimate lounge has a piano and beautifully framed French doors and windows that open onto the carport.
Adjacent to the Frida Khalo space is the dining area where you can enjoy an amazing skylight experience with 3/4 of the vaulted ceiling covered with corrugated plexiglass for the ultimate in natural light. And on those cold days and nights of winter, a powerful and central wood-burning fireplace is the perfect accompaniment.
On the first level, there is also a TV/Game room with Netflix and other streaming channels, a chess table and set, board games, and super comfy reclining chairs for easy and relaxing times.
The kitchen is fully equipped with essential appliances, cookware, dining sets, glasses, and cutlery.
The laundry area is in the basement and can be accessed with assistance from staff.
The Rooms -
The Triple-D-Light Room at the top of the stairs is the main bedroom with sweeping views of the gardens and cottage, as well as an inventive en-suite bathroom including a big soaking tub for relaxing moments in the skylight. Boasting bright colors and pleasure-invoking furnishings, including a delicious king-size bed with a Tantra couch at its foot, this room is a haven for play and rest.
The main suite also has a huge walk-in dressing room with an antique, red dressing table and plenty of shelves, as well as cupboards for all your belongings.
The Overlook Room is a quaint bedroom on the second level with two comfortable single beds resting under a spacious ceiling with rafters. This cozy guest room shares a full bathroom, including a shower over the bathtub, with the Sunrise Room.
The Sunrise Room, the 3rd room on the 2nd level is designed to be a bright, energizing space with the intention to bring mindfulness for peace and tranquility. With cascading windows facing north and east, this room is a morning riser's dream as it gives the best sunrise light throughout all the seasons. Equipped with a stunning cobalt blue sleeper couch and rainbow-like accessories throughout the space, this room is a perfect place to meditate and reflect on your time at Seira Sol. It is also a great spot to practice yoga, stretching, and breathing exercises.
The Moonset Room is located on the ground floor and hosts an inviting queen sleigh bed and antique furnishings. This room has built-in cupboards and an imported Indonesian antique bureau to bring Eastern elegance to the room. The Moonset Room shares a full bathroom with visitors and fellow guests.
The house is full of lovely spaces to work or relax. There is abundant natural light pouring in and replenishing your experience. Your patio is the ideal spot to enjoy sundowners and brunches on warmer days. And remember to take some dips in the heated infinity pool on cooler ones.
The house and cottage (currently not in use) are on a friendly and safe compound with a beautiful pool, in a quiet gem of a neighborhood, where you have some of the best bars, restaurants, and art galleries nearby. Meanwhile, you are living on a peaceful stand with herbs, fruits, and vegetables growing in the garden and a natural bird sanctuary. It offers a perfect space to chill and enjoy a lock-up-and-go lifestyle while only a few minutes walk from the "greatest corner in Johannesburg" in Rosebank.
Once you arrive, kick off your shoes at the front door and find your way to one of the comfortable chairs or couches or beds, you will know for sure that you have found what country living in the big city truly feels like. Welcome home!
Seira Sol has its own carport with space for 2 cars and other spaces for guest parking.
You have your own peaceful inside and outside spaces, as well as shared living areas including a laundry room, pool, and gardens.
One of our friendly onsite hosts will be there to greet you, welcome you and help you get settled in.
We have complimentary coffee, tea, fruits, and treats upon arrival. Happie will come and clean your bedrooms once a week. Shared areas are tidied and cleaned at least twice per week. If you would like to request more frequent cleaning services for an additional fee, please let us know at the time of your booking confirmation. We can accommodate no more than 3 days per week.
Thanks to Ronald, you also have an incredibly well-maintained garden and patio, and an amazing ocean-colored pool cascading a wall overlooking the garden. Ronald is also your onsite host and is available to help as needed.
Guest access
You will have access to the entire house, patio, pool and garden. The house can sleep up to 8 people. The main bedroom is always accessible for the primary guest(s), and other bedrooms are open according to the number of guests staying overnight.
Other things to note
It is critical that we all continue to remain vigilant and observe current recommended protocols with regard to protecting all of our guests, our staff, and our home. All guests are asked to adopt a comfortable standard of consistent cleanliness, sanitization, strict limitation to additional guests or visitors, physical distances, and maintain security protocol at all times.
Seira Sol on 5th is a warm, peaceful, and relaxing getaway where our intention is for you to be stress-free and whole. We have done our best to sustain the calming energy, and to be mindful of the changing times regarding rolling blackouts (load-shedding), security, safety, and good health.
Rolling Blackouts (Loadshedding)
In South Africa, we have been experiencing planned rolling power outages that are determined in stages day by day. These blackouts can be as short as two hours and as long as 6 hours on any given day. We currently have temporary solar-powered backup inverter systems for use with small appliances and electronic devices. While these batteries rely on solar and electric power to recharge, it is encouraged to keep your devices charged when the power is on.

Ronald and Happie are consummate co-hosts and will respect your privacy and personal space. Happie and Ronald are also amazing caretakers of the home, the grounds, and our guests. They bring so much energy and joy to meeting and supporting you during your stay with us.
As a traveler myself, I am often away from Seira Sol on 5th. I sincerely hope that I am around during one of your stays with us. I love meeting our guests and learning your stories. Central to everything in Jozi!
Just west of Rosebank in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, Parktown North is one of the oldest residential areas in the city with a rather interesting history.
Parktown North originally served as the residential area for the poorer relatives of the Randlords (the guys who controlled both the diamond and gold mining industries in those days), who erected their oversized manor homes on Parktown Ridge during the gold rush that hit Gauteng during the 1890s.
Today these homes are much sought-after and Parktown North has an enviable village atmosphere even though it lies close to Jan Smuts Avenue - one of the busiest arteries in Johannesburg that makes getting around the city that much easier.
There is plenty to do when staying in Parktown North, the heart of the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. Rosebank is the home of numerous business and shopping centres and is the site of both the popular Rooftop Craft Market and the African Market. Seira Sol's central location is incomparable. There are numerous restaurants to choose from in Parktown North. The trendy villages of Parkhurst, Greenside, Melville and Norwood with their attractive high street culture, antique shops, enticing eateries and coffee shops are all just a few minutes away.
Seira Sol on 5th is a secure, patrolled and walkable neighborhood. One of the hippest corners in Johannesburg, is a mere 7 minute walk away, yet our street is quiet and serene at all times. We are also a brief walking distance from Zoo Lake Park in neighboring Parkview.
