This truly unique hotel has had a major makeover since we last visited 20 years ago. The rooms are looking great, and the staff are very pleasant, although service can be a bit hit-and-miss at times.
We stayed for two nights to celebrate my 60th birthday. The hotel has such character and is on a beautiful island with amazing views in every direction. We particularly enjoyed a swim in the mermaid pool and dinner in the Pilchard Inn. The highlight was dressing for dinner and dining in the grand ballroom on my birthday. Our room, The Bentley Room, was beautifully decorated with a very comfortable bed and a balcony with fantastic views. We loved the history of the hotel and island and found the staff extremely helpful. We will definitely be back!
Trading off its reputation and beautifully restored Art Deco Building , falls short in so many areas .
The so called customer relations manager Vlad made a great show of our « very special « room only to show us to the worst room in the house so small it felt like weâd been put up in a caravan. Disgusting view of two roofs . My wife was reduced to tears a very special birthday trip ruined . How dare he mock his guests in such a contemptuous way. Fortunately we were accommodated in a more satisfactory room after one night by a more customer focused member of staff . The food was a disgrace either bland and tasteless or so overwhelming and overpowering as to be inedible after one night in the restaurant we cancelled and ate in the Pilchard Inn instead. The staff were largely charming and friendly although clearly untrained and unsupervised .
One of the best experiences Iâve had. Such an interesting and beautiful place. Staff were amazing, so helpful and happy to tell you about this incredible place. Will definitely be returning, hopefully regularly
Wonderful Escapism
A treat away for my 50th birthday. Exceptional service throughout our stay from bar and restaurant staff, through to the lovely cleaning ladies. Made my stay very special, fabulous food both at the Pilchard Inn and the black tie dinner. Any little issues were dealt with straight away and am already looking for an excuse to go back again, oh and you must brave it and take a swim in the mermaid pool.
It was something that wife had wanted to do since she was a teenager. And now we both have, it is an iconic location with an amazing history and it has hosted some of the most famous people of the 20th century which include Winston Churchill to the Fab Four "The Beatles". It was everything we expected and for more.
Our 2 night stay was exceptionally good from start to finish. Every member of staff we met was excellent and really made our stay special. This, combined with the food and drink, location and ambiance means that, for us, itâs one of the best hotels we have stayed in.
This is an experience rather than a hotel stay. From the moment we parked we were looked after by the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff were great, we had suite which was fully furnished in art deco style but with up to date touches; coffee machine. Underfloor heating.
It's a truly unique location... being cut off by the tide twice a day on your own island. It's stunning. The attention to Art Deco is remarkable. It was spotlessly clean. The service is relaxed not over the top. The food was really good, not superb and perhaps not quite worth the price, but I get that you're paying for the location as much as anything. Love that the rooms don't have TVs to be authentic to the period. It's fun having the 4x4 transfer over the beach or the sea tractor through the waves. We'd go back again. It was really special for our anniversary
