The little village, with a prettily preserved village character, is among the villages that were used in the Middle Ages as trading places along the shore for Frisian farming traders. Parts of the castle site with remains of tombs have been preserved and can be visited along a pathway. There are shops, restaurants in the neighbouring village of Wirdum, an indoor pool, tennis, mini golf etc in Greetsiel. The fishing village of Greetsiel offers its guests Frisian originality and a leisurely atmosphere.
