How close is Kyoto Knot Vacation House to downtown Kyoto?
My husband and I absolutely loved our stay at the Kyoto Knot Vacation House. It is a traditional Japanese-style home with Tatami flooring and super comfortable futons for sleeping. Before going to Japan, we thought all accommodations would be very small; however, after arriving in Kyoto, we were pleasantly surprised by the large size and great comfort of this house. The place is exactly the way it looks in the pictures, with a large kitchen fully equipped with everything we needed, a huge shower room and all the amenities, such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, razors, facial cleanser, lotion, etc, as well as a separate room for toilet (Japanese style with heated toilet seat). It was incredible how much thought the host had put into planning everything for our stay at their house. We had absolutely everything we needed! The second floor of the house is also very large and roomy, with incredibly comfortable futons (Japanese style mattresses) where we slept like babies. There is also a western style living room with a couch (that folds out into a bed) and tv.The house was very quiet during our stay and we were super comfortable for the entire 4 days we spent there. The location is also great, as it is very close (about 10-12 minute walk) to the main Kyoto station (for Shinkansen, subway, and buses). Also, there is a bus stop right outside the house, which made it very convenient for us to get around. We highly recommend this house!
Beautiful home in a great neighborhood. Centrally located with convenient shops and restaurants nearby, and really close to the subway). It's family friendly (with laundry machines!) too.
Staying at Kyoto Knot is much more than a place to sleep at night - it's a complete experience with the feeling of living in your own Japanese style townhouse in Kyoto. This 100 year old home has been lovingly restored by the proprietors, who have a keen eye for tastefully blending Japanese and Western design. Much of the restoration work was done by their own hands and there's even an illustrative book there that you can flip through and see how they transformed the home.
Besides being beautifully designed, the home was extremely clean and comfortable. The Japanese style futon was cushy and provided a great nights sleep. The bathroom was brand new and sparkling clean, and the kitchen provided all the amenities to prepare and plate meals. The tea and coffee service feature delicious local teas from the Kyoto area. For longer stays, the laundry machine comes in super handy.
As far as location, it's well located half way between Kyoto station and downtown, and a short walk from the Gojo subway station. For those who enjoy walking, you can walk though the neighborhoods to and from Kyoto Station or the downtown Kawaramachi area and enjoy the local atmosphere mixed with traditional and modern buildings and local shops. There are a few convenient stores and a grocery store right around the corner from Knot, making it easy to pick food up and stock the fridge.
But on top of all this, the kindness and warmth of the owners was what made the experience most memorable!
We had a great stay at the Kyoto Knot Vacation House. It's a very new place, recently renovated, so reviews are hard to find - but what a find! You get an entire house for the price of a hotel room, including kitchen and bath with washer/dryer, all done in a traditional Japanese style, with ryokan style bedding. Moe is a great hostess and communicator, and made checking in and out very easy. If you're only used to western-style beds and bathing, it may take some getting used to, but the Kyoto Knot is highly recommended.
