If you are looking for Japanese style of hospitality “Omotenashi”, Mimaru is definitely not your choice. Employment of foreign staff and western style of management made me felt like staying in Leonardo Hotel in Manchester. Wifi was poor especially at night. Luggage storage is usually free in Japan. But Mimaru will charge you 500 yen per luggage each day. Stayed there for 7 days and six nights. Our beds were only made up once until I made the request in person. Strangely their staff will knock on your door around 9 am every day asking if a room make up service is required. Why not simply let us have a sticker to place outside the room like other hotels normally do? The washing machine is a nightmare. You have to spend 6 to 7 hours to do washing (4 hours to run a wash and dry cycle and another 2 hours for drying cycle to make the clothes cupboard dry). The 2 stars I gave is for the good location and delicious eateries nearby as well as a nice working place for the laidback jobseekers.

Very happy with our stay here! This accommodation is very baby/child friendly, they provided a baby crib free of charge and also had a bottle steriliser which were able to make use of for the duration of our stay. They also did some baby proofing to the room which was appreciated. Location was great and we were able to walk to all necessities and quite a few attractions. Would stay with MIMARU again

We were given a beautiful spacious room that accommodated the 5 of us giving us plenty of comfort and space. The room was clean end everything in perfect working condition. Location was perfect and the staff very helpful.

Clean, modern, spacious apartment with washer / dryer in room. Futons were comfortable. Quiet location, 5 minutes from karasuma oike station. Convenience stores, McDonald’s, Starbucks, other eateries within 2-5 mins walk. 10-15 minute walk to Nishiki markets, shopping strip, pontocho alley. Gion is a further 10-15 minute walk. Luggage forwarding available, 160 cm suitcase to Tokyo was 3,060 yen.

Amazing 5-Day Stay

My stay at Mimaru Shinmachi Sanjo in Kyoto was wonderful. Our room was spacious and big enough for 2 people - could even fit a 3rd if we wanted. The air conditioner and laundry worked well, and the shower had great pressure. The toilet also had so many helpful settings - music for privacy, deodorizer, etc. The staff was kind and helpful - Harry gave us many tips! Their luggage storage room is also very helpful and we felt secure leaving our belongings there. I also encourage guests to try their luggage delivery service - you can avoid carrying your bags all over Kyoto when traveling elsewhere! My only feedback is I wish the mattresses were a bit more comfortable, but it really made no impact on our stay. Thank you, Mimaru!

Large spacious apart hotel, with all the amenities you'd want. Location is good although not at the busiest heart of the city, it is close to 2 stations and bus routes. Nishiki Market and Pontocho are in walking distance but you not near noisy crowds. Several breakfast options are nearby including chain restaurants, several coffee shops and bakeries. Family rooms are spacious and modern - nice big table to enjoy your konbini snacks. Staff are fluent in English and helpful. Good for families with kids.
