Can only rate the communication (poor) since they refused us at check in despite our booking confirmation through expedia because the hotel made a mistake with the rate. After arriving we had to wait for almost an hour to speak to the manager who left with an excuse and never came back....
I was working pretty intensively in Lilongwe and I needed a weekend break to wind down. Eden was the perfect spot and barely 20 minutes drive from town. My quiet, restful and beautifully appointed studio had its own mini kitchen and separate bedroom upstairs, so it was more like a small house. And the onsite bar and restaurant and extensive grounds were a delight. I will definitely return.
Eden Estates is a REALLY nice place for leisure travelers and families, with a couple of caveats. The grounds of the lodge are huge, the rooms large and nice, with kitchen facilities. Staff and management are friendly and helpful. Eden is new and there are still some kinks to be worked out, but overall it's very good value for money by Malawi standards. Drawbacks include: the power outage situation (as discussed by reviewers on Tripadvisor and elsewhere) which, although they provide generator supplementation for part or most of the time, can still be a hassle if your'e a business traveler trying to work; the extremely limited restaurant menu, which only includes about 6-7 items - all meat, so if you're vegetarian/vegan you should plan to cook all your own food; and the distance from the city center - while taxis are easy to arrange, they're very expensive (as all are in Lilongwe) so the reasonable rates become less reasonable if you're a business traveler who has to go in to town everyday and don't have your own transport. That said, it's a beautiful facility that is well maintained and will have more and more to offer as time goes on (e.g. they're in process of setting up a demonstration farm which will be another draw for families and leisure travelers, in addition to all of the ducks, donkeys and other animals already on site).
