I Had a good time at the Sonesta, clean rooms, stocked fridge a variety of drinks, alcohol and non alcoholic, everything worked but the iron and house keep resolved that quickly. The grounds and resort were clean. The hotel is very close to the airport.

The general atmosphere was incredibly negative. I did not see a smile on the face of any employee. It was very apparent that staff did not care about any of the guests and were reporting to work just to fulfill their duties. There are 6 restaurants with staggered schedules meaning that only 4 were open at any given time. Food quality was poor to fair (the buffet was decent), and food service was exceptionally slow in most cases and included servers with careless attitudes and a downright disregard for guest satisfaction. Many were simply rude. Again, no smiles whatsoever. Rules were either incredibly strict or not enforced at all. No flexibility or variability. For instance, we requested a late checkout and were sharply informed that “we do not permit late checkouts on Thursdays.” No explanation, no empathy, no mention of assisting to hold bags, find a cab, etc. Just an abrupt “click” to end the telephone conversation. All poolside chairs were claimed by guests by 6am with zero enforcement of any towel removal policy if unoccupied for a given amount of time. This made it exceptionally challenging for my family of five to enjoy the pool or the makeshift “beach” at all. The towel process was also quite frustrating. When we asked for towels, we were denied as we did not have “towel cards.” However, despite asking for clarity, no one supplied an explanation regarding this process and/or where/how to obtain towel cards. We had to take them when the “towel bosses” weren’t lookin

While the front desk staff was lovely and accommodating, our overall experience at this hotel was not great. The hotel is dated and I’d need of some tlc. I booked three rooms as we were traveling with my elderly mom and my three daughters ages 16, 20, 21. First there was a waterbug issue in the girls’ room (many bugs) and thankfully they gave them a different room, but they were freaked out - it was bad. Then the handicap accessible shower in mom’s room flooded the whole room but they promptly sent someone to check drain and clean up the mess. Things happen and they did address these issues for us. We were really disappointed with the food overall though and the service at the bars and restaurants was inconsistent. Another disappointment for us was the beach here. It was difficult to access and very rocky. Wouldn’t recommend.

Really nice place overall. My group’s only complaint was the flexibility with the guests at the time of checking out, if you are not out of the room with all your things at the checkout time on the dot, you get locked out, your bracelet/key gets automatically disabled. Then you have to go to the lobby and get someone to re activate your key in order to get your things and back to the lobby for the checkout.

My Family and I had a great time in St. Martin. The property, Maho Sonesta Resort. The property met our needs for a Family of 6 adults during the week of Christmas 2025. We stayed for 5 nights and had a great time in St Martin. The property itself is good, not great. The food became a bit repetitive after awhile and it was ok at best. The adult beverages are plentiful but not premium. The property itself has probably seen better days but it wasn't bad at all. The property however could use a good cleaning and upgrade. The staff were hit or miss. Some staff members went above and beyond to satisfy our stay yet others came off as though we were a bother. The location of the resort is perfect, not to far from the airport; right on the beach and in an area that always a few shops and the feeling of being very safe. Q:Would we stay at the Sonesta Maho??? I would say yes if the price is right, but I would also check a few other resorts before making my final decision.

Easy to access from the airport. Near Maho Beach for plane sightings. Beach access. Smaller Resort made it easy to get to restaurants and pool/beach and back to the room. Rooms were ok. Decent views from “Island view” rooms. Food was consistent and comparable to cruise ship style food. Good for kids and families. Staff were busy but helpful. Lines and waits were not too long. Decent for the price and busy holiday season.

Starting from Checking in. The front desk staff was rude and unaccommodating at first. Upon entering the room we noticed that the phone was not working and the room safe was not working.......The shower design is CRAZY. Our bathroom floor flooded the first night.......The food is mid and I would give this resort a 7/10. Also, we were unaware that amenities were given based on the floor you happened to be on.
